The Halo franchise is known for its blend of human and Covenant weapons, such as the iconic Energy Sword and the SPNKr Rocket Launcher. However, many fans have fond memories of the chaotic Big Team Battle mode filled with many exciting vehicles as well. Armored vehicles like the UNSC Warthog or the Covenant Ghost have been staples of the multiplayer formula throughout the Halo series. Fortunately for fans of the franchise's vehicular combat, Halo Infinite looks to continue the legacy of these famous vehicles along with making some improvements to the system as well.
Recently, 343 Industries hosted a multiplayer preview for Halo Infinite. Running from September 24 until September 27, players had the chance to check out the multiplayer experience. Featuring several modes such as multiplayer online matches and the Academy, a training area to test out different weapons, gamers received a better look at what to expect when the game launches on December 8. Amongst the new features, one fan noticed an unexpected upgrade to vehicles.

In a recent Reddit post, a user known as Tard-lett found an interesting vehicle feature while in Training Mode during the multiplayer preview. They discovered that the developers had included a “dynamic damage” system in Halo Infinite. A Redditor posted a video demonstrating the system in action.
Little something some of y'all may have missed: 343 implemented a really neat "Dynamic Damage" system to the vehicle textures. from halo
The clip started with the player looking at a Ghost and a Warthog. After a brief moment, they began to fire a VK78 Commando at the Ghost. As the player unloaded a clip of bullets at the Covenant vehicle, damage began to appear in the locations where they were shooting. They then repeated the same process on the Warthog with a similar result. The results of the video showed that wherever the player fired at one of the vehicles a damage mark appeared in the corresponding location.
This discovery has become popular with the Halo community on Reddit. With over 1,500 upvotes, the consensus among fans was that the new feature added to the realism of combat. Many commented that they liked the attention to detail this feature added to the game. However, others noticed that the UNSC insignia on the Warthog remained visible despite the damage, causing some to joke that the logo was made with "Indistructripaint."
Besides this dynamic damage system, a new leak recently showed off a number of new vehicle designs coming to the game. The leak included a look at classic Covenant vehicles such as the Wraith, Banshee, and Chopper along with a look at the powerful UNSC Scorpion. Players should get an even better look at a number of these vehicles as another multiplayer preview focused on Big Team Battle is scheduled for next week.
Halo Infinite releases December 8, 2021, for PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
