Since Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin's announcement and demo, little more has been said about the game. Fortunately, Square Enix will be revealing more about Stranger of Paradise this weekend at Tokyo Game Show Online 2021.
Recently, Square Enix released its lineup for TGS 2021 where Stranger of Paradise appeared alongside other Final Fantasy titles like The First Soldier and Brave Exvius. Stranger of Paradise was announced during Square Enix's E3 2021 event, which, despite leaking beforehand, was still a shocking development. The game is a reimagining of sorts, of the events prior to the original Final Fantasy, where the four Warriors of Light set off on a quest to "kill Chaos," an utterance made by the protagonist Jack many times. Rather than a turn-based RPG, Stranger of Paradise plays similar to Nioh, with a fast, hack n'slash-style of gameplay.

Square Enix announced on Twitter its plan for a Stranger of Paradise event this weekend at TGS 2021. This is not a new announcement, per se, because, as mentioned, it was known the game would be at TGS 2021. That said, as the first tweet since July from the English Twitter account for the game, this post is likely intended for those who were following the game and missed the more general Square Enix announcement of the upcoming event. Fans can tune into the Stranger of Paradise special event on October 2 at 9pm JST.
According to Square Enix's TGS 2021 schedule, this will be the first game shown during Part 2 of Saturday's broadcasting. For English audiences, the broadcast will thankfully have full English subtitles, which hopefully extends to Square Enix's other presentations as well. Although no time has officially been disclosed, the Stranger of Paradise event and the following show, Square Enix Jazz Live Painting, are an hour apart, meaning fans might get at most an hour of Stranger of Paradise information. With Final Fantasy 16 being absent from TGS 2021, that leaves plenty of room for the other major Final Fantasy title to shine.
Reception of Stranger of Paradise has been mixed by those who got to try the demo back in June. Quick comparisons were made to Final Fantasy 7 Remake due to both game's reimagined gameplay and plots of the games they are based on. While the gameplay was solid, it was Stranger of Paradise's scenario that received the most attention, the grizzled, angry protagonist standing out amongst his companions (both aesthetically and personality-wise) feels very strange here. Here is an opportunity for Square Enix to flip the script (maybe even literally) before the game's release next year.
