Ghostbusters fans got a look at a new foe for the upcoming sequel. Recently released photos from Ghostbusters: Afterlife showcase one of the new protagonists and one of a new antagonists.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be the fourth film in the franchise. The original debuted in June of 1984, part two was released in June of 1989, and the reboot was released in July 2016. Ghostbusters: Afterlife will pick up after the events of the first two films. These films were typically released as summer blockbusters, but Afterlife will be released a few weeks after Halloween, which will be a nice change of pace.

The two new stills in question come from Empire Magazine. The first still shows the new Ghostbusters crew, including Trevor, played by Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things and It), and Lucky, played by Celeste O'Connor (Freaky and Selah and the Spades). They appear to be looking around in the dark, which may come with a few surprises and a jumpscare or two. The second image shows a new type of enemy known as the Muncher, which has a similar appearance to the Slimer (minus the obvious color difference). Muncher will be making its debut in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which will hopefully have a variety of new ghostly enemies for fans to look at and enjoy.
Afterlife will be bringing a new group of characters who look to solidify their spot as the "future generation" of ghost hunters. The original Ghostbusters actors are also all set to reprise their roles, so fans should expect to see many references and easter eggs to the previous films in the upcoming sequel. Of course, the late Harold Ramis will not be reprising his role as Egon Spengler, but the young cast of new characters are said to be the character's descendants.
The Ghostbusters: Afterlife trailer showed many new characters and actors joining the franchise, including Ant-Man's Paul Rudd, so fans should expect to have a fun and thrilling experience when this movie drops in time for the fall/spooky season. If this film does well, then there may be more sequels or even a potential crossover with the rebooted film that was released in 2016.
Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be in theaters on November 19th, 2021.
