The influence of Twitch streamers, and internet personalities as a whole, has grown over time. Now, individuals can achieve rockstar status by putting in years of work to garner a massive audience, just as Sodapoppin, one of the most notable Twitch streamers on the platform, has done. Those interested in the streamer might want to keep their schedule clear for an upcoming event, too, as Sodapoppin is going to be roasted.
Twitch streamer AustinShow has been putting on a series called “Roast Of,” a concept similar to the Comedy Central Roasts that have groups of celebrities make jokes at the expense of a single person, often with particular venom but in the name of good fun. AustinShow has brought other personalities on before, Hasan Piker – known as HasanAbi on Twitch – being one notable example.

The Roast of Sodapoppin will be broadcast Friday, October 1 at 4 PM EST over on AustinShow’s Twitch channel. While there isn’t a specific amount of time that the show is scheduled to run for, at least that seems to have been announced, the Roast of HasanAbi ran for about an hour and a half, while the Roast of Mizkif lasted for about two hours. It’s a safe bet that the Roast of Sodapoppin will be in the same ballpark.
As far as guests, there’s a star-studded panel set to appear for the roast. QTCinderella, HasanAbi, Ludwig, WillNeff, NMPLOL, Cyr, and ROFLGator have all been confirmed, and the announcement is teasing two other mystery guests that will be making appearances. Of course, even with so many popular personalities on the stream, Sodapoppin will still be taking center stage during the event.
The stream is being sponsored by CashApp and will be broadcast live from the 100 Thieves compound. Currently, Sodapoppin, and a number of other high-profile Twitch streamers, are partaking in an event dubbed “ShitCamp,” where two teams are participating in a series of challenges, and otherwise having a good time. That event is scheduled to end tomorrow, with the Roast of Sodapoppin taking place later this week.
Events like this speak to the continued importance of Twitch in the internet ecosystem. The influence of streamers has only grown over the past few years, with the pandemic causing a massive boost to watch time as people stayed at home. If anything, events like this will start to pop up more frequently as streamers find new avenues to create content in.
