The Book of Boba Fett, a Star Wars spin-off of The Mandalorian, will officially premiere on Disney Plus just before the end of the year.

The next live-action Star Wars series will officially premiere before the end of 2021. The Book Of Boba Fett, a spin-off focused primarily on the fan-favorite bounty hunter, will premiere in December of this year. Disney Plus confirmed the news while also releasing key art for the upcoming series.

The Book Of Boba Fett will feature the infamous bounty hunter played by actor Temuera Morrison and his partner in crime Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen) as they navigate the Star Wars criminal underworld. The new series was first teased in the post-credits scene of the season 2 finale of The Mandalorian, which featured the two outlaws arriving at Jabba the Hutt's palace and forcibly taking the throne where the notorious crime boss once sat.

Originally introduced on-screen in an animated segment of the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special, Boba Fett has gone on to become one of the most recognizable Star Wars characters to date. The character played a small but pivotal role in the original trilogy until he was unceremoniously thrown into the Sarlacc pit. Morrison originally portrayed Boba Fett's father, Jango Fett, in the second chapter of George Lucas' prequel trilogy, Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones. He later provided the voice-over for Boba's Fett's lines in the re-release of The Empire Strikes Back since the character is actually a clone of his father, thus genetically identical. This unique relationship allowed Morrison to return to the franchise over a decade later to play Boba Fett in both The Mandalorian and The Book Of Boba Fett, the latter of which will premiere on Disney Plus on December 29.

Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni will serve as executive producers on The Book of Boba Fett, alongside filmmaker Robert Rodriguez and Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Rodriguez, known for his violent films such as Planet Terror and Machete, directed the 6th episode of season 2 of The Mandalorian, which featured the explosive return of the bounty hunter. Rodriguez also reportedly directed several episodes of The Book Of Boba Fett, along with Favreau, Filoni, and fellow Mandalorian director Bryce Dallas Howard.

The Book Of Boba Fett will be the second live-action Star Wars series to premiere on Disney Plus after the first two seasons of its predecessor, The Mandalorian. Actor and recent Emmy award winner Ewan McGregor confirmed that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series has finished shooting. The limited series starring McGregor as the exiled Jedi Master is expected to premiere sometime in 2022, along with the third season of The Mandalorian.

There are also two other live-action Mandalorian spin-off series in the works: Rangers of the New Republic and Ahsoka. In total, Disney and Lucasfilm have eight live-action Star Wars series planned for the streaming giant, including Andor, The Acolyte, and Lando. Disney also recently announced that a new special focused on Boba Fett's history and legacy will hit Disney Plus on November 12th, 2021.

The Book Of Boba Fett premiere's exclusively on Disney Plus on December 29th, 2021.
