Quick Links
Yveltal is the game mascot of Pokemon Y and serves as the opposite of Xerneas in the Kalos lore. It is a Dark/Flying Type with high Attack and Special Attack in the main games. Fortunately, Yveltal lives up to its name as the Destruction Pokemon, and this carries into Pokemon GO.
Although there are arguably better Flying Types to use in Pokemon GO, Yveltal has a max CP of 3,781 (level 40). What players will want to remember are Yveltal’s weaknesses. As a Dark/Flying dual-type, Yveltal is weak to Fairy, Electric, Ice, and Rock Type. However, its dual-typing also gives it immunity to Ground and Psychic Type moves.

Catching Yveltal in Pokemon GO
As most fans may have expected, Yveltal didn’t debut in Luminous Legends X. Instead, it arrived in Pokemon GO's Luminous Legends Y on May 18, 2021, and could be caught in five-star raids.
The best way to counter Yveltal is with Rampardos or Rhyperior and their Smack Down move or using Galarian Darmanitan and its Ice Type moves. In addition, Electric Types such as Electivire or Legendary Electric Pokemon such as Raikou or Thundurus can also be used to take it down.
Yveltal’s Moves
In Pokemon GO, Yveltal can't use its Signature Move: Oblivion Wing. However, it makes up for this in its sturdy movepool. Some examples include Sucker Punch and Snarl as Quick Moves, and Dark Pulse and Hurricane for Charged Moves.
Quick Moves | Type | Damage | DPS |
Sucker Punch | Dark | 7 | 12 |
Snarl | Dark | 12 | 13.1 |
Gust | Flying | 25 | 15 |
Charged Moves | Type | Damage | DPS |
Hyper Beam | Normal | 150 | 39.5 |
Dark Pulse | Dark | 80 | 32 |
Psychic | Psychic | 90 | 32.1 |
Hurricane | Flying | 110 | 48.9 |
Focus Blast | Fighting | 140 | 40 |
Yveltal’s Best Movesets
Yveltal benefits from gaining STAB (same-type attack bonus) from all its Quick Moves. There are a variety of Pokemon move combinations to choose from both offensively and defensively while still making the most out of Yveltal's abilities.

Offense
While it's possible to have three different movesets with Gust, Sucker Punch, and Snarl as the Quick Move, players may want to stick with Gust because of its higher DPS and damage output compared to Snarl and Sucker Punch.
Gust + Charged Move
Move | Type | DPS |
Gust | Flying | 15 |
Hurricane | Flying | 48.9 |
Move | Type | DPS |
Gust | Flying | 15 |
Hyper Beam | Normal | 39.5 |
Snarl + Charged Move
If players wish for fewer Flying-STAB moves, they can try one of the following using Snarl or Sucker Punch:
Move | Type | DPS |
Snarl | Dark | 13.1 |
Dark Pulse | Dark | 32 |
Move | Type | DPS |
Snarl | Dark | 13.1 |
Hyper Beam | Normal | 39.5 |
Sucker Punch + Charged Move
Move | Type | DPS |
Sucker Punch | Dark | 12 |
Hurricane | Flying | 48.9 |
Move | Type | DPS |
Sucker Punch | Dark | 12 |
Dark Pulse | Dark | 32 |
Defense
For defensive builds, it's best to stick to the Flying STAB for Yveltal's Quick Move because of its DPS and damage.
Move* | Type | DPS |
Gust | Flying | 15 |
Hyper Beam | Normal | 39.5 |
(*Note how this works both offensively and defensively.)
Move | Type | DPS |
Gust | Flying | 15 |
Dark Pulse | Dark | 32 |
A solid movepool gives Yveltal the advantage over most legendary Pokemon when constructing its Pokemon GO moveset. Those fortunate enough to have Yveltal on their team will find it to be a flexible and powerful Pokemon.
