New Stargirl season 2 photos give fans their first look at John Wesley Shipp's Jay Garrick, a.k.a. The Flash, teaming up with the JSA.

DC's live-action Stargirl series has provided a first look at the upcoming crossover featuring John Wesley Shipp as Jay Garrick, also known as The Flash. Stargirl takes place in the same continuity as The CW's other live-action DC shows in what is known as the 'Arrowverse.'

Stargirl, also known as Courtney Whitmore, is a superpowered teen hero who has the ability to manipulate, deflect, and control energy. Her superhuman abilities also include enhanced strength and speed. The Stargirl comics usually show her interacting with the Justice League, which is on-brand since she's able more than capable of holding her own against some of DC's strongest beings.

The Arrowverse may not have the legitimate version of the Justice League, so fans shouldn't expect to see that team in the crossover. However, fans can take comfort in knowing that they will get to see the next best thing, which will be the Justice Society of America. Entertainment Weekly provided exclusive first photos from an upcoming episode that features Shipp's Jay Garrick, also known as the Golden Age or original version of The Flash. Shipp first appeared on The CW's The Flash as both Jay Garrick and Barry Allen's father. Though they were two completely different characters, Shipp was able to play both roles because they were from different corners of the multiverse.

The upcoming flashback episode of Stargirl will showcase the original Justice Society of America, including Sylvester Pemberton/Starman, Johnny Thunder, Rex Tyler/Hourman, and Ted Grant/Wildcat. Pemberton is the previous owner of the "Star" mantle prior to Stargirl's time in the same way that Jay Garrick was the scarlet speedster prior to Barry Allen's Flash. So expect some parallels in terms of storytelling and to see Whitmore getting a new sense of direction.

Stargirl has yet to feature a crossover until this point, but episode 9 will feature the first of hopefully many crossovers. The Arrowverse has been good at consistently having characters interact with each other, which many comic fans love to see. It's always good to see fan-favorite superheroes interact with each other. The superhero world isn't as big as they often make it out to be, so it makes sense for the characters to often run into each other when they're in need or in the area. Considering characters who have super speed can cross the country in a matter of minutes, then it should be no surprise that fans have seen Barry Allen appear in Arrow.

Hopefully, fans of Stargirl don't become overwhelmed with all of the heroes on screen, as it may often take away from the main hero. Too often, superhero projects rely on the allure of the main heavy hitters such as Batman or Superman. With that being said, Stargirl seems to be aiming in the right direction by using the often underutilized JSA.

Stargirl airs on Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
