One unlucky Skyrim player accidentally decapitates a follower while attempting to perform a finishing blow on an enemy monster.

While The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim does offer a wide degree of variance in terms of user interactivity, this can often lead to unfortunate circumstances. There are a number of quests in Skyrim that players can fail unintentionally by killing an important NPC or have an unforseen glitch affect progress made. Though, one Skyrim player managed to accidentally kill one of the many followers that users can accrue throughout the game.

Depending on which part of Skyrim the player chooses to explore, there's potential to encounter numerous friendly NPCs. Many of which can serve as travel companions that follow the player around and assist them in various activities and quests. For instance, Skyrim characters like Lydia, Aela the Huntress, and Erik the Slayer can all serve as followers. However, many of the followers can be killed by enemies and even the player.

A Reddit user named Albafique posted a video that shows the user fighting a snow troll. Just as the player is about to land the final blow on the snow troll, the player accidentally decapitates their follower, Farkas of the Companions Guild. Considering that Farkas is a non-essential NPC, he can get killed by just about anything, but it's fairly obvious that Albafique didn't intend to kill Farkas.

With any luck, Albafique had a backup save file that could bring back Farkas. Regardless, the incident itself is rather hilarious all things considered. To any Skyrim fan not used to using two-handed weapons, the signt of seeing an NPC getting decapitated would likely be unexpected to say the least. Even more so when the decapitation is unintentional like it is in Albafique's video.

It's amazing to see just how much continued attention and popularity Skyrim has received, despite its age. Skyrim is one of very few games to last over 10 years in terms of relevance in the eyes of the gaming community. Not nearly as many games have managed to persist that long and still be celebrated and beloved.

That said, The Elder Scrolls 6 certainly has some big shoes to fill in that regard. For Skyrim to still be actively played by many old and new players in the present day is an achievement that The Elder Scrolls 6 may have a hard time living up to. Although, there hasn't been much by way of official news, there have been plenty of rumors surrounding The Elder Scrolls 6. With any luck, Bethesda will reveal new information about the game in the coming months.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim is out now for PC, PS4, Switch, Xbox One, and legacy platforms.
