The Bibliophile sub-quest in Tales of Arise requires time and patience, but the payoff is worth the effort. Here's what players will need.

Quick Links

In a game as large as Tales of Arise, players will no doubt have access to many subquests. Side content is nothing new to the Tales Series, and Tales of Arise is no exception. Some quests become permanently unavailable after a plot point in-game has been reached. Others start early but can take the entire game to complete.

One example is the Bibliophile Quest. In short, this entails Rinwell showing different tomes to an NPC in Menancia. Players would be wise to fulfill this task if they want the 2nd strongest weapon (Heavenly Gaze) and the Pancake Recipe.

About “Bibliophile”

The quest giver is Tigrana, who can be found in the library on the first floor of the Auteliana Palace in Menancia. This quest becomes available after Lord Dohalim joins the party and cannot be accepted before then.

Players need to show Tigrana several rare books, which happen to be Rinwell’s weapons. Simply equip the weapon and speak to her. Each milestone is met with a small reward such as consumable items or armor/accessories.

“Bibliophile” requires Rinwell’s following weapons:

  • Secrets of the Stars
  • Taming Water
  • Radiant Light
  • Nature’s Beauty
  • Rarest Book (Heavenly Gaze)

All of these can be obtained through crafting except for the first one (Secrets of the Stars). Crafting weapons in Tales of Arise involves farming dropped materials from certain enemies. As players progress through the story, they will be able to craft the necessary weapons such as Nature’s Beauty.

Secrets of the Stars

This is the first weapon Rinwell has equipped when she joins. It also happens to be the first book Tigrana wants to see.

Fans of the Tales Series who may have played Tales of Vesperia were advised not to sell their weapons because weapons were always key in crafting. However, it’s not too uncommon for players to accidentally get rid of weaker weapons when they get something new and shiny.

For those that may have sold Secrets of the Stars, they can craft a new one at a blacksmith.

Taming Water

Players will gain the ability to craft Taming Water as Tales of Arise's story continues. Speak to a merchant and hand over the following:

  • 890 Gald
  • 8x Strange Cores
  • 2x Astral Crystal Fragments

Strange Cores are obtained from:

  • Ropers at Ulvhan Grotto and in Rudhir Forest.
  • Golems at Sandinus Ravine and at the Iglia Wastes.

Astral Crystal Fragments are obtained at these places and from these enemies:

  • Cysloden: Cysloda Armored Marksman*, Cysloda Armored Spearman.
  • Riville Prisoner Tower: Cyslodia Chief Spearman
  • Safar Sea Cave – Central Level (blue sparkles)

*Can also be fought in the Riville Prisoner Tower.

Radiant Light

This is the 3rd weapon Rinwell will be able to craft. The materials needed are:

  • 1440 Gald
  • 8x Bizarre Megacores
  • 2x Clam Tentacles

Bizarre Megacores can be farmed off the following:

  • Forest Ropers in Gilanne Woodlands.
  • Granilem in Traslida Highway or the Razum Quarry.
  • Creepzillas in Adan Lake or Mobile Fortress Gradia.
  • Earthen Masses in Trasilda Highway or Tietal Plain.
  • Tempestuous Masses in Mount Dhiara or Aqfotle Hills.
  • Viscous Masses in Aureum Falls or Del Fharis Castle.
  • Oozes in Underground Waterway or the Frozen Valley.

Clam Tentacles can be obtained by defeating Shellshockers in Safar Sea Cave or Trasilda Highway.

Nature’s Beauty

This is the 4th weapon Rinwell can craft. It will require the following:

  • 1600 Gald
  • 4x Bizarre Megacores
  • 1x Earth Stone
  • 1x Titanium Vambrance

Players can refer to the Radiant Light section to see where Bizarre Megacores can be farmed. The Earth Stone can be obtained from the Earthen Mass in Trasilda Highway or Tietal Plain. Meanwhile, the Titanium Vambrance can be farmed from the Apes in Gilanne Woodland or the Alpha Reaper Gigant in Trasilda Highway (spawns once).

Heavenly Gaze

The rarest book in the Bibliophile quest cannot be crafted until near the end of the game. Like Nature’s Beauty, it requires three sets of materials as well as the standard Gald pricing to craft.

  • 19,580 Gald
  • 6x Mystical Luminacore
  • 2x Ominous Eyeball
  • 2x Incendiary Scale

To make farming easier, it’s recommended to defeat any of the specified enemies the player may come across at this stage in the game.

Mystical Luminacore can be farmed off the listed enemies in these locations:

  • Tarfhal Helgarahi: Astral Agony, Astral Doubt, Astral Lament, Helganquil*
  • The Wedge: Blooming Roper
  • The Otherworld: Treant Roper, Lavalem, Punisher
  • Berg Volcano: Magmalem
  • Earth Spirit Temple: Gnome Guarder, Flaming Mass
  • Gegham Helgarahi: Chrome Gazer

*Helganquil can also be found in the Gegham Helgarahi.

Ominous Eyeball can be farmed in the following:

  • Tarfhal Helgarahi: Astral Sloth
  • The Otherworld: Mash Boomy

Incendiary Scale can be obtained from:

  • Gegham Helgarahi: Blast Bee
  • The Otherworld: Bee Prisma

Rewards

Remember that for each book shown, Tigrana will give the party small rewards. Here’s what players can expect:

  • Secrets of the Stars: 5x Happy Bottle
  • Taming Water: 1x Magic Emblem
  • Radiant Light: 1x Red Rosemary
  • Nature’s Beauty: 1x Rosemary
  • Heavenly Gaze: 1x Elder Cloak

Once the Bibliophile quest is complete, speak to Tigrana again to get 3100 Gald, 185 SP, and the Pancake Recipe, which grants Ore Up L.
