When Sony first released the PlayStation 5 last November, it made some changes to its PlayStation Plus subscription service. Instead of only giving away two free PS4 games every month to PlayStation Plus subscribers, Sony threw a free PS5 game into the mix, giving subscribers three free games every month. And now that we're coming up on a full year of free PS5 PS Plus games, Sony has established a pattern with what fans can expect from PS5 games.
With the free PS5 PS Plus games, Sony has almost always given away new releases, with rare exceptions. Out of the 12 PS5 free PS Plus games that Sony has given away since the console's launch, 10 of those 12 have been new releases, while just two have been older games. At first, Sony giving away new games as the free PS5 PS Plus title seemed necessary since the console was brand new, but now that it's nearly a year old, some may have expected Sony to switch to older titles.

After all, the free PS5 PS Plus game for September 2021 was Overcooked: All You Can Eat, a co-op party game that servced as a launch title for Sony's next-generation console. With the PS5 nearly a year old, one could hardly fault Sony for moving to older games for the free PS5 PS Plus offerings. There certainly wouldn't be an uproar like when Sony made Maneater a free PS Plus game and had to offer refunds. Besides Maneater and Overcooked, all the other free PS5 PS Plus games have been new releases for the PS5.

Despite this, it seems Sony is still going to be giving away brand new titles as the free PS5 PS Plus game offering for the most part. This is evidenced by Hell Let Loose being the free PS5 PS Plus game for the free PS Plus games for October 2021 lineup. Hell Let Loose, for the those who may be unfamiliar with it, is a large-scale World War 2 FPS multiplayer game that previously had a PS5-exclusive beta.
Once Tuesday, October 5 rolls around and the PlayStation Store updates, PS Plus subscribers will be able to add Hell Let Loose to their collection, marking yet another new PS5 game hitting the service. It will be interesting to see if November 2021 has anything similar in store for PlayStation Plus subscribers. Maybe next month will include yet another new game for PS Plus subscribers on PS5 to add to their collection, or maybe Sony will decide to release an older game instead.
Besides Hell Let Loose, the free PS Plus games for October 2021 also include Mortal Kombat X and PGA Tour 2K21 on PS4. The free PS Plus games for November 2021 will include two PS4 titles to go along with the free PS5 game, but their identity is a mystery at this point as well.
