Finally releasing on September 28th after multiple betas and delays, Amazon’s MMORPG New World has become the talk of the gaming world. The game’s launch saw New World’s player count immediately reach half a million and daily Steam numbers are peaking around 840,000, making it the most played game on Steam currently.
The game has seen plenty of success on Twitch as well, with a multitude of big-name streamers like Shroud and Asmongold sharing their New World experiences. Despite the game’s quick success, there is a particularly popular Twitch streamer, Summit1g, who has no interest in live-broadcasting New World at this point in time.

A seasoned Twitch veteran who began streaming on the site back in 2012, Summit1G is most recently known for his world record-breaking Max Payne 3 speedrun and has amassed an impressive follower count of 5.9 million on Twitch. During a recent Twitch stream on September 30th, Summit1g let his viewers know his feelings regarding Amazon’s MMO, “When it comes to New World, I’m just going to let other people be testing the waters. We’ll see if it’s good through them,” Summit1g explained to viewers, “I don’t want to spend my whole day grinding.”
Summit1g then further elaborated his thoughts on New World and MMOs in general versus other genres like competitive shooters, “I’d rather get nice, cheeky 1v1s than 6v6s… That’s the thing about MMO’s, there’s a ceiling and everybody hits it. It means everyone else below them catches up.”
A lack of any meaningful MMORPG releases outside of expansion packs has possibly left room for New World in the MMORPG space. Activision Blizzard’s World of Warcraft is caught up in a messy legal battle regarding the treatment of its workers, and Final Fantasy 14’s upcoming Endwalker expansion isn’t set to release until November 23rd. Apart from New World, there are very few new IPs in the MMO space, particularly any with a budget as large as Amazon’s offering.
Summit1g certainly makes some criticims regarding New World and the nature of MMORPGs versus competitive shooters like Counter-Strike or Valorant. MMORPGs like New World are typically built around grinding and building your character over time, instead of the quick decision-making and reflexes used in online FPSs like Call of Duty: Warzone. The games are simply trying to achieve different goals with their designs, and as such, will draw contrasting player types. With Summit1g’s preferences, he likely won’t be playing New World anytime soon.
New World is available on PC.
