Red Dead Redemption 2 players have quite a large number of animals to track down and capture. From enormous bison to small brown rats, there are no shortage of hunting opportunities in the world. But there is one animal in particular that can be quite challenging to find in Red Dead Redemption 2: the Little Brown Bat.
The Little Brown Bat is supposedly spread out throughout the entire playable area in Red Dead Redemption 2, but players have found them to be much more elusive than that. For those players looking to track down the best locations to find Little Brown Bats, this guide is here to help.

Where to Find Little Brown Bats
Red Dead Redemption 2 mentions that Little Brown Bats can be found across most of America, but, in the actual game, they tend to populate 3 major locations. Going from west to east, players can first head to the region of West Elizabeth on the far corner of the American portion of the map. This first Little Brown Bat location is the abandoned cabin alongside the Aurora Basin.
This is the only permanent structure on this body of water, and the bats can be found here with relative frequency at night. Players should be on their guard, however, as this specific area is home to a number of dangerous NPCs. Camping until nighttime is the best bet for hunting opportunities, but it may also trigger some of the more dangerous encounters of Red Dead Redemption 2.
The next location for the Little Brown Bat is in Lemoyne, on an old civil war battlefield. Players will remember this location from the nearby encounters between the Braithwaite and the Gray families in the main story of Red Dead Redemption 2. The bats can be found flying around the abandoned church to the east of Braithwaite Manor at Bolger Glade at night.
The final location for hunting down the Little Brown Bat is the Elysian Pool west of the Van Horn Trading Post. This is the same location as the Legendary Perch in Red Dead Redemption 2 and hosts a decent-sized waterfall.
Behind this waterfall, there is a cavern system that players can access. Within this cavern is where the bats can be found. This location can also provide decent bat carcasses without any work required as some of these animals end up hitting walls and falling to their deaths.
What are Little Brown Bats for in Red Dead Redemption 2?
In order to successfully hunt Little Brown Bats, players need to equip their bow and select small game arrows. These creatures are quite small and using anything larger will hurt the quality of what players pick up after a kill. Little Brown Bats can be hunted for stringy meat, bat wings, and a bat carcass.
Little Brown Bats also come up as part of daily challenges in Red Dead Redemption Online as well as part of A Better World, A New Friend stranger mission in Red Dead Redemption 2. A perfect bat carcass is one part of the 5th hunting challenge in that mission.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
