As the Pokemon series continues, the franchise has added many quality-of-life features to make the games easier on both newer and older fans. The additions to these features tend to have split reception between players as some either praise the new features while others insist that the games are growing too easy. One decision that has split players looking forward to Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is that previews of the title have revealed that the EXP Share feature is turned on permanently.
EXP Share is Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl's shortened version of "Experience Share," which has been seen in Pokemon games since the first titles as "EXP All." The device is a rather helpful item that eases how much trainers need to spend time leveling by having EXP be distributed across all Pokemon in players' parties as long as the item is equipped or the option turned on. Recent titles have included the feature earlier and earlier in the game with each release.

The EXP Share used in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl affects the entire party from the very start of the game, according to Serebii.net, and cannot be turned off. The fourth-generation remakes also feature the same helpful type-effectiveness tips on moves as more recent titles have, along with allowing players to access their Pokemon PC storage right away, and at any time trainers want.
This has caused a divide with players, as some have pointed out that leveling Pokemon isn't something many fans desire to spend too much time on, whereas others feel like it adds to the challenge. The first game with the EXP Share left on permanently was Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, which was a title some diehard fans considered "too easy" as a result.
The usefulness of this feature in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is something that depends on the fan in question, but it can definitely be argued that this is one of the many changes that make Pokemon far easier to get through in current times, making the struggle to have a strong enough team for gym battles easier on younger and busier fans.
At the same time, there's a point to be made on how leaving this feature on permanently doesn't give fans a choice in their gameplay experience. While it may be helpful to others, some fans have found enjoyment in working for a strong Pokemon team, and this feature cuts playtime for those fans almost in half. It seems players may need to get used to this feature, as it may be a permanent setting for all Pokemon titles from now on.
Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl release for the Nintendo Switch on November 19th, 2021.
