Respawn Entertainment Director of Comms Ryan K. Rigney comments on the state of Wattson in Apex Legends and a fix coming for the Pylon Ultimate.

Recent updates to Apex Legends have caused a stir as one of the game's playable characters, Wattson, has made the character a difficult choice for players since the start of Season 9. An accidental nerf to the Apex Legends fan-favorite was found by players and confirmed by developer Respawn Entertainment, although up until now there hasn't been much news on getting a real fix for the issue.

The specific problem players have been facing when trying to play as Wattson in Apex Legends is that her Pylon Ultimate, which is supposed to stop damage from enemy gunfire and grenades, hasn't been working properly. In some cases, players have reported that there is no damage reduction or shielding effect at all, with this change also not apparently being a planned change for the character's abilities.

Now that Respawn Entertainment is preparing to move on to Season 11 of Apex Legends, the developers have opened up that a fix is currently in the process of being implemented. This news comes from Director of Comms at Respawn Entertainment, Ryan K. Rigney, who responded to questions about Wattson in a Reddit post commenting on questions some players have had about the state of the character's abilities. Rigney responded that a fix is on the way, though the developer couldn't give an exact timeline for which update would bring these changes or a timeline for when players can expect Wattson's Ultimate to begin behaving normally.

Unfortunately, Rigney couldn't comment on any buffs or changes coming aside from the fix for the character's Ultimate, though it may be time for some major updates for Wattson to make up for the shortcomings since the bug began. Either way, fans are clearly happy to see that the Pylon is getting fixed at all, if the replies to Rigney's comments are anything to go by. Considering how long Wattson has been marked as unusable by players thanks to the glitched Ultimate, it might take time to get over the stigma built up while the character was bugged.

Development on a consistent service title like Apex Legends, with special events and character balance to consider, can often lead to characters like Wattson running into issues like the Ultimate glitch. However, this doesn't make it any less frustrating for players looking to consistently play as their favorite characters. So, news that this fix is on the way, even without a solid timeline, can be good to hear for those that have wanted to return to the character with abilities fully intact.

Apex Legends is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
