At its last Nintendo Direct event, Nintendo revealed a higher-cost subscription tier for Nintendo Switch Online dubbed the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack. At the time, all Nintendo revealed about this new Nintendo Switch Online service was that the Expansion Pack would cost more than the currently available subscription and that it would include Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis games. Nintendo has since revealed pricing and release date information for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, and suffice to say, fans aren't happy.
The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack trailer has been flooded with dislikes, with 44 thousand dislikes versus just 15 thousand likes. Looking at the comments, the main source of contention appears to be the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack price. The base version of Nintendo Switch Online is relatively cheap at just $19.99 per year, whereas the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack bumps the price up to $49.99 per year.

Anyone interested will have to pay $30 more per year for the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack, and it seems many fans are upset about this price hike. They may want to play the Nintendo 64 games coming to Nintendo Switch Online, but don't think the titles justify a $30 per year increase. Nintendo is very unlikely to budge on the price, so it will be interesting to see how many Switch Online subscribers get the Expansion Pack come its launch on October 25.
For the uninitiated, the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack will launch with nine Nintendo 64 games, 14 Sega Genesis games, and access to the Animal Crossing: New Horizons Happy Home Paradise paid DLC. The retro games have bonuses like save states and online multiplayer support (a first for many of the included Nintendo 64 games), plus more Nintendo 64 games will be added later on at no additional cost. Still, it's clear many fans are not happy about the Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack price and think the content isn't compelling enough to justify paying for it.
This isn't the first time a Nintendo Switch Online trailer was flooded with dislikes. Earlier this year, a Nintendo Switch Online overview trailer was hit with so many dislikes that Nintendo took it down and re-uploaded it later on. The reupload was similarly hit with a ton of dislikes, mainly from fans who were voicing their displeasure at Super Mario Bros. 35 being removed from the service.
While fans have been asking for Nintendo 64 games to come to the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service for some time, it seems that many aren't willing to pay the higher price to access the games. The Nintendo Switch Online Expansion Pack price is likely set in stone at this point, but maybe fans will find it to be a more worthwhile investment once it fills out its collection of Nintendo 64 titles.
