Kumail Nanjiani discussed his upcoming role with a few teases without giving the specifics. The actor talked to Rolling Stone, saying, "I talked to [director Deborah Chow] and we had a great conversation... I was so excited about this character. We haven’t seen this exact thing in Star Wars yet. This is like a new version of a type of Star Wars character we’ve seen before... And I was like, 'I was gonna do it before the conversation!'" the actor went on to describe the project as the most joyful first job back after the quarantine.
The actor sounded immensely grateful about his time in two back-to-back Disney projects. The actor will be one of the leading stars in the upcoming Marvel's Eternals film and now is set to be in the upcoming highly anticipated Star Wars project. "I didn’t know how I could beat the experience I’ve had, which is a Marvel movie with Chloé Zhao, who is amazing, and maybe the greatest cast ever assembled" the actor says regarding the Marvel film, "and then have Obi-Wan as the next thing, with another really fantastic cast...Ewan McGregor! Really? I don’t know where I go from there. And so I decided to walk into the middle of the woods."
Disney has been releasing great Star Wars spin-off projects and has been making a habit of doing better in terms of critical and fan reception with its limited series and television shows in comparison to its movies. The films and shows both have great production value however it seems the storylines step up during the shows.
Hopefully, Obi-Wan Kenobi's series will take center stage amongst other Star Wars projects. The upcoming series will also bring back the two actors responsible for bringing one of the best lightsaber battles in Star Wars history. With McGregor and Christensen returning, here's to hoping fans get an intense rematch between Kenobi and Vader for the upcoming project that displays the duo's ability in a more effective and visually appealing way.
