Apex Legends has leaned into its Titanfall origins more and more as time goes on, and now Ash, the murderous simulacrum from Titanfall 2, is coming to the game as a playable Legend. Arriving alongside her is the C.A.R. SMG, another fan-favorite from the Titanfall franchise.
On October 18, Respawn Entertainment revealed this news with a Stories from the Outlands short animation that reveals the catalyst for Ash joining the Apex Games. Additionally, Respawn posted to its site offering the name of the new season, Escape.

The released video titled, "Ashes to Ash," features Horizon poking through Ash's memories as she is likely looking for answers about her son. Instead she ends up unlocking memories that Ash plans to use for her own benefit, though it is unclear what exactly Ash's plans are going into the next season. The video also teases the launch trailer for Apex Legends Escape which will drop on October 21. In the key art for Escape, Ash is seen holding a sword powered with electric energy similar to the one that her Titan wields in Titanfall 2.
In Apex Legends, Ash has been a character mostly shrouded in mystery since players revived her in Season 5. While it is not clear what her motives are for joining the games, it is clear that she is battling with her inner self, the version of her that is resisting her simulacrum programming. Escape may be the start of an arc that finally begins to offer some resolution for Horizon's storyline in which she is struggling to find her son after her time traveling incident. Whatever the case, Escape will push Apex's story forward in a major way, as Ash is important to so many big players in the game. Horizon, Blisk, and Pathfinder all have ties to her, and now that her memories are surfacing they will all have an interest in interacting with Ash.
Fans of Titanfall 2 have been wanting Ash to join the Apex games for some time, and, now that she is finally joining the game as a playable character, hype is starting to grow for the next season. Apex Legends Legacy already gave players a Legend tied to Titanfall 2 in Valkyrie, but this is the first time that a character featured in the Titanfall games is coming to the game. Adding on to the nostalgia and hype is the return of the C.A.R. SMG, another iconic symbol of the Titanfall franchise.
Apex Legends is available now on Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
