Call of Duty releases a trailer for its The Haunting event, which sees pro gamer FaZe Swagg get murdered by Scream slasher Ghostface.

With the first half of October now in the rear-view mirror, spooky season is undoubtedly in full swing. Many live service games are getting into the Halloween spirit by releasing new themed content, and Call of Duty: Warzone is no different. The extremely well-known franchise released a trailer for its Halloween content today, called "The Haunting," which sees Scream's Ghostface straight-up murder streamer FaZe Swagg.

The announcement of The Haunting confirms rumors of Activision's premier FPS franchise giving players another round of its Halloween event. Signs of The Haunting's return began appearing at the beginning of the month, with a mysterious candy-filled bucket found inside one of the garages in Nuketown.

The clever Call of Duty trailer begins with FaZe Swagg playing a round of Warzone, who then receives a call from the 90s slasher himself, Ghostface. After creepily telling Swagg he knows where he is in-game, the slasher pulls a deadly finishing move on his character. The middle portion of the trailer is a sizzle reel of what players can expect, including the return of Ghosts of Verdansk and a host of new horror-filled content. The final moments of the trailer cuts back to FaZe Swagg, who asks if he's getting trolled. The pro gamer sees his door unlocked, just before being stabbed to death by the Scream villain.

This year's The Haunting event for Call of Duty: Warzone and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will see the return of fan-favorite LTMs like the previously mentioned Ghosts of Verdansk, along with plenty of new content for players to discover. These include fan-favorite map Nuketown getting a Halloween makeover, aptly named Nuketown Halloween, and the new LTM Scream Deathmatch pits weaponless survivors against two Ghostfaces. In addition to Ghostface, Donnie Darko's Frank The Rabbit joins the fray, adding to the game's growing roster of past film icons.

Beyond regular multiplayer, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War's Zombies mode is also getting its own unique Halloween content. All Hallows' Eve Outbreak offers an intense challenge for skilled players, tasking them with clearing a region of ever-increasing difficulty as well as an Orda. For all Zombies game types, Scare Packages will drop every five rounds, and zombies will spawn with jack-o-lanterns on their heads, acting as both a weak spot and a source for bonus points. The Haunting is also likely the last major event for BOCW, as Call of Duty: Vanguard launches in just a few weeks.

The trailer adeptly sits on the border of funny and scary, and should entice plenty of Halloween lovers to boot up Call of Duty over the next few weeks. While all of the horror-related content may cause players to hide and wait things out, Call of Duty itself is calling camping an act of cowardice.

Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
