Ubisoft reveals that Assassin's Creed Valhalla's Discovery Tour Viking Age comes with quests, a free roam, and 24 playable characters.

Arguably the crown jewel in Ubisoft's crown, the popular and profitable Assassin's Creed series has seen plenty of evolution to its core gameplay over the years. It's current form began in 2017 with Assassin's Creed Origins, which introduced a massive open world, much heavier RPG mechanics, as well as live service elements. While this change brought with it microtransactions, being a live service also ment plenty of updates, seasonal content, and expansions as well.

While there are those who lament the loss of the more story focused and action heavy elements from the original games, fans agree that one of the better things to come out of the newer games is the Discovery Tour content. Typically released as add-on content, Discovery Tour lets players dig into the history of the game's time period, featuring guided tours focused on landmarks, historical figures, and the way of life. With the latest version coming to Assassin's Creed Valhalla, it appears that Ubisoft is attempting to make this version of Discovery Tour the best one yet.

As part of the game's post launch support, Ubisoft has finally launched the latest Discovery Tour for Assassin's Creed Valhalla. Unlike past iterations of this non-combat content, this version introduces new ways to play as players explore the history of both the Vikings and 9th century England. Instead of the traditional guided tours, players can now unlock and play as 24 different characters like Basim, Sigurd, Odin, King Alfred of Wessex, and more in a Free Roam mode.

In addition, Assassin's Creed Valhalla players can take on 8 interconnected narrative based quests each with objectives to complete. Finishing these quests lets players interact with Discovery Sites that offers new information and details on the culture and traditions of both Vikings and Anglo-Saxons during this time period. Images used during these segments are from collections through Ubisoft's museum partners like the UK’s Hampshire Cultural Trust, Preston Park Museum & Grounds, York Archaeological Trust, The British Library, France’s Réunion des Musées Nationaux, and the National Museum of Denmark.

While the Assassin's Creed series is no stranger to evolution, the next game in the franchise might be the biggest change yet. Known as Assassin's Creed Infinity, Ubisoft has described this upcoming title to be one with an evolving world and multiple settings that are inspired by the ever changing live service style games like Grand Theft Auto Online and Fortnite. It's still unknown what exactly this will mean for the game, but a recent leak indicates that Infinity will contain multiple stories with various protagonists tied together by an overarching narrative thread.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla is available on Luna, PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
