Over the years, Pokemon has built up a stable of recurring “popular” creatures that fans have come to adore and expect above the rest. Obviously, there’s Pikachu, mostly thanks to its prominence in the globally popular anime, and various other things. Characters who have shown up in Super Smash Bros., including Jigglypuff, Pichu, Mewtwo, the Kanto starters, Lucario, and others have similar popularity as well. Fans do their best to show love to the whole roster when a new generation of games rolls around, but there’s only so much they can do, and Game Freak tends to notice the Pokemon that pull ahead.
