Activision is already looking to the next Call of Duty title, and the studio behind the 2021 release has apparently been leaked.

With the huge success of the Call of Duty series, many fans are already looking to what Call of Duty 2021 may have in store. There is a lot going on with the franchise at the moment, as Activision is juggling multiple titles at once. However, that does not mean that another entry will not be released later this year. In fact, Activision has already confirmed that a Call of Duty for 2021 is on the way, and information on that game is starting to be leaked.

The Call of Duty franchise has surpassed $3 billion in net bookings over the past 12 months thanks to Call of Duty: Mobile, 2019's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, the popular battle royale Call of Duty: Warzone, and the recently released Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. That also does not include the campaign-only Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. While 2021 will see continued support of many of those titles, it will also see another new COD game; one that may be coming from Sledgehammer Games.

According to a known Call of Duty leaker ModernWarzone on Twitter, Sledgehammer Games is "100 percent" developing the next Call of Duty game. The leaker recently hit 200,000 followers on Twitter and was very instrumental in leaking Warzone details leading up to the release of the battle royale; long before the game was officially revealed. In the case of this next Call of Duty title, they said the information is not official, but it should not be taken with a grain of salt either; he believes that it is accurate.

Sledgehammer Games has had a troublesome few years of COD development, according to most reports. Last year was supposed to be the year in which Sledgehammer Games was to launch its next game, but because of internal problems Treyarch was asked to step in and rush Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Instead of Treyarch having a three-year cycle, it had two years to develop the game. Now, instead of Sledgehammer having a three-year cycle, it looks to have had four years to develop this next COD title.

Sledgehammer Games' most recent title was Call of Duty: WW2 in 2017. Before that, the developer made Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. If nothing else, Sledgehammer Games should get props for creating Call of Duty titles with very diverse settings. It has also assisted in the development of Modern Warfare 3, 2019's Modern Warfare, and the just-released Black Ops Cold War.

This is not the first time that there have been rumors that Sledgehammer Games will develop the next COD title. However, while ModernWarzone is very confident in his information, and the rumors are certainly starting to line-up, nothing has yet been confirmed. It is likely that more concrete information will come from Activision and whichever developer is behind the next Call of Duty in the coming months.

Call of Duty 2021 is in development.
