The release of the PlayStation 5 in November was one of the most highly anticipated gaming events of all of 2020. It ushered in the next-generation of Sony produced gaming, with breathtaking graphics and the new DualSense controller that gives players the chance to interact with their games like never before. Although there have been some snags when it comes to the PS5's availability in stores, due in part to some aggressive console scalpers online, the launch of the system has been mostly smooth.
As is customary with most new console launches, the one place where the PlayStation 5 could be a bit stronger is in new games to play. The console did launch with its fair share of exclusives, including Spider-Man: Miles Morales and the Demon's Souls Remake, but a lot of gamers are looking to really take advantage of their new hardware with some next-gen releases. The way 2021 and beyond is shaping up so far, and PS5 owners should have a lot to look forward to in the way of upcoming games. From fresh IPs to long-awaited sequels, PS5 game libraries are about to get a lot more full.

The highly anticipated sequel to 2017's Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is set to release on May 7th, 2021, and it will be following the story of Ethan from the previous game. This time around, Ethan finds himself in a mysterious village filled with vampires and werewolves, expanding the series' antagonists past the zombies of previous entries. The one thing that has gotten this game the most attention in recent weeks is the introduction of antagonist Lady Dimitrescu, a haunting 9'6" vampire that the internet has taken a particular interest in. The game will be bringing back the first-person perspective of the last installment, and should be a welcome addition for players looking for a next-gen survival horror experience.

Another long-awaited sequel, Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart will be continuing the rebooted story of everyone's favorite Lombax that started with 2016's Ratchet and Clank. From what little gameplay footage has been shown so far, this game looks to be taking advantage of the PS5's SSD, with practically invisible load times being the focus. Trailers show Ratchet and Clank shifting between dimensions in rapid succession, and there's a mysterious new female Lombax that has never been seen in the series before. The game is set to release sometime in 2021, so gamers should have a chance to see just how next-gen the game is soon.

God of War: Ragnarok, which is not the game's official title, is at the top of a lot of player's lists for most anticipated PS5 games. After the massive success that was 2018's God of War, fans of the series have been itching for details on when they'll be able to return to the Norse world of mythology. Not much has been made official about the game just yet, other than the fact that it's coming and Santa Monica Studio is shooting for a 2021 release date. Gamers had a lot of questions regarding God of War once the credits rolled, so it would be nice if this next installment provided some answers.
