During the Blizzconline opening ceremony, World of Warcraft developer Blizzard reveals the upcoming Burning Crusade expansion for WoW Classic.

During the Blizzconline 2021 opening ceremony, Blizzard shared a lot of new information to the world. This included everything from the new Hearthstone content updates, a new class for Diablo 4, and the reveal of Diablo 2 Resurrected to some major World of Warcraft material.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is getting a major content update involving the Jailer, dubbed Chains of Domination, but World of Warcraft Classic is getting some love too. Fans now know that they can expect the upcoming expansion, the Burning Crusade, to arrive sometime in 2021. A specific release date or even window was not given, but there's still plenty to be excited for.

Burning Crusade Classic, as with the entirety of World of Warcraft Classic, is a faithful recreation that comes filled with all the original content. Players can go into the Twisting Nether and explore the Outland, battle their way up to level 70, unlock flying mounts, and play as two more races: blood eves and the draenei. It should be noted that this expansion will add two new realm types to the game: Classic Era Realms and Burning Crusade Classic Progression Realms. Existing characters will have to choose which path, but it's a relatively simple choice.

Those who wish to remain on Azeroth can continue to play WoW Classic's Shadow of the Necropolis content update on a Classic Era realm, which is provided to characters for free. This opportunity will exist for all characters. On the other hand, Progression realms will receive the new content updates and have all features added to them whenever WoW Burning Crusade Classic releases. It should be furthered note that all current realms will fall into the latter, so those who want to maintain the Azeroth-only experience will need to be sure to get into an Era realm.

Unfortunately, as to when players must choose a realm is unknown, much like the release date for WoW Burning Crusade Classic. The wording suggests that the choice between realms will come with plenty of enough time for players to make their selection before the actual release, but with all of this content coming to Classic, fans have a lot to wait for. Details will likely continue to be reveled over the coming months, working their way up to an eventual release date for this expansion.

World of Warcraft Burning Crusade Classic is in development for PC.
