LOTR: Why Didn't Any Of Aragorn's Forefathers Reclaim The Throne Of Gondor?

If Aragorn's line is directly linked to the kingship, why did no one else step up?

In the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Aragorn’s lineage is undoubtedly a complicated one. The readers are informed that he is an heir of Isildur, and as such he is the rightful claimant of the throne of Gondor. But as he is the current descendant of a long line of unbroken father to son heritage, dating all the way back to Isildur himself, why is it that none of Aragorn’s forefathers claimed their place on the throne, especially as it is long known at this point that Gondor is suffering under the failing rule of the stewards.
