With the news this week that Netflix will be rescuing the BioShock film from development limbo, fans were excited at the prospect of finally seeing the beloved franchise make its big-screen debut. Soon after BioShock's successful launch in 2007, film rumors were swirling around the dark and dystopian title. A movie adaption was soon confirmed, with The Ring and Pirates of the Caribbean director Gore Verbinski set to lead the project. But it was not to be, as the BioShock movie lingered in development hell with reported disputes over an R-rating and the adaption's budget. Thanks to these issues, the film hasn't moved much past early development in over 10 years.
