Actor Ryan Reynolds disappointed some DC fans after he addressed a rumor going around that he would be reprising his role as Hal Jordan/Green Lantern in the much-awaited film Zack Snyder’s Justice League. While fans were convinced that the Deadpool star had a surprise cameo in the movie, Reynolds confirmed that he will not be a part of the upcoming flick.
The rumor began on social media after Zack Snyder’s interview with Vanity Fair was released and it was reported that the new version of Justice League would include a major cameo right at the end. The information soon became viral online, with fans quickly speculating on which DC character would be making a special appearance. There were many contenders on the list, but the most popular one was Green Lantern, with many fans believing that Reynolds would suit up for the role.

A few hours after the topic was trending online, Reynolds decided to squash the rumor with a tweet reading, "It's not me." Even though he believes it would be “cool to cameo as Hal”, he comically informed his fans that the “suit stays in the closet.” The confirmation received mixed reactions from his fans, with some glad that his version of Green Lantern will not be making a return. However, others who were looking forward to a surprise appearance weren’t too thrilled.
The Reynolds’ Green Lantern film was released in 2011, with this year marking its 10th anniversary, and was initially supposed to mark the launch of a new DC franchise. However, the film was not received well by both fans and critics, and it did not fare well at the box office. Following its disappointing reception, any plans for a sequel were scrapped. Over the years since the film’s release, Reynolds himself has regularly poked fun at his version of the Emerald Knight. Recognizing the film as a career hiccup, the actor has spoken up about it in several of his interviews, too, admitting that the script was not perfect.
Reynolds has since moved to Marvel, taking on the role of the Merc with a Mouth in the Deadpool film series. The first movie in the franchise released in 2016 and the low-budget, R-rated superhero film immediately became a huge success. His portrayal of the character received a lot of praise, which led to the release of the film’s sequel in 2018. A third installment of the Deadpool film series is already in the works, with Reynolds providing input on the script.
While it is confirmed that Reynolds will definitely not be appearing in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, the special cameo at the end remains a mystery. It is so far confirmed that aside from the characters in the theatrical edition of Justice League, the Snyder Cut will also feature appearances by Deathstroke, Hippolyta, Darkseid, and Jared Leto's Joker. Additionally, Martian Manhunter, another DC character who was supposed to be a part of Snyder's vision for the franchise, will also have a cameo.
Zack Snyder's Justice League will be released on HBO Max in the U.S. and other services worldwide starting March 18, 2021.
