Spider-Man 3, currently filming in Atlanta, is one of the most highly anticipated films of Phase 4 of the MCU. Details of the plot have been kept under wraps, but three of the film's stars have now posted the first official images of the movie.
Spider-Man 3 cast members Tom Holland (Peter Parker), Zendaya (MJ), and Jacob Batalon (Ned) took to Instagram on Tuesday February 23rd, each claiming to be posting the title for the new movie. The movie titles were fake and obviously comedic, reading "Spider-Man: Phone Home," "Spider-Man: Homeslice" and "Spider-Man: Homewrecker." However, the images they shared with the fake titles were definitely real.

Three different images were posted, each featuring Peter Parker, MJ, and Ned. They appeared to be taken from the same part of the film as the characters are wearing the same clothing in each shot; Peter wears a casual blue button over a t-shirt, MJ wears a wool coat over a striped sweater, and Ned wears a varsity jacket over a printed button-down. In one shot, the trio are all looking up towards something, perhaps a person. In another picture, the three stand in the doorway of what looks like a dark basement room, looking apprehensive. In the final photograph, Ned is looking at something on his laptop, with Peter and MJ bent over him.
At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, J. Jonah Jameson broadcasted doctored footage that framed Spider-Man for the drone attack on London and then exposed Spider-Man's true identity to the world. It's possible that Peter was forced to go into hiding, and that the new Spider-Man 3 images show him and his friends in their hideout, trying to find out what is going on. The images reveal very little, as is often the case with Marvel, and could possibly even be misleading.
There have been a lot of rumours swirling around the story of Spider-Man 3. There have been rumours of characters from other Spider-Man continuities--including Jamie Foxx's Electro, Willem Dafoe's Green Goblin, and Andrew Garfield's and Tobey Maguire's Peter Parkers--making appearances in the film. Tom Holland has claimed Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire are not in the film to his knowledge, but he could be misdirecting Marvel fans to maintain the surprise. Regardless, Tom Holland has also called the film "the most ambitious standalone superhero movie ever made" and referred to one filming day as a career highlight.
Spider-Man 3 is set to be released December 17 2021.
