On January 21, Capcom is hosting a special Resident Evil showcase that will primarily be showing off the upcoming Resident Evil 8 while also highlighting the future of its survival-horror franchise in general. To keep fans hyped, Capcom has been counting down the days to the Resident Evil showcase on the official Resident Evil Twitter page, but it's been doing so in a rather strange way.
Each day, the official Resident Evil Twitter page continues its countdown to the Resident Evil showcase event on January 21. Each tweet includes an emoji representing an item from a Resident Evil game, along with a video that shows said item being added to the player's inventory. For example, the latest tweet includes a plant emoji and sees a green herb being added to Chris Redfield's inventory as seen in Resident Evil 5.

Previous days have highlighted other Resident Evil games and different items. One recent tweet included an egg emoji and Leon S. Kennedy's inventory screen from Resident Evil 4. That tweet sparked speculation that Capcom was teasing the rumored Resident Evil 4 remake for a reveal during the Resident Evil showcase, but that's highly unlikely. Today's tweet specified that fans will get to see Resident Evil 8 at the showcase, so anyone hoping for an RE4 remake reveal shouldn't get their hopes up.
While it's highly unlikely that Resident Evil 4 will be featured during the Resident Evil 25th anniversary event, that doesn't mean Resident Evil 8 will be the only game on display. It may be the only game that's actually confirmed by Capcom, but credible leakers have said that the event will likely also show the Resident Evil multiplayer game that's secretly in development and believed to be launching at some point later this year.
Not much is known about the secret Resident Evil multiplayer game, but Capcom has invited members of the Resident Evil ambassador program to test it, whatever it is. And while there's a chance that the game will be featured during the Resident Evil event on January 21, fans should keep their expectations in check about that as well. The only guarantee is new information on Resident Evil 8.
It remains to be seen what exactly about Resident Evil 8 will be revealed during the Resident Evil showcase, but rumor has it that it could include the release date. Rumors also point to a Resident Evil 8 playable demo, perhaps exclusive to PS5, will also be announced. Whatever the case may be, Resident Evil fans will want to tune in on January 21 at 2pm PT to find out more.
