The Last of Us fan art depicting The Mandalorian star Pedro Pascal as Joel Miller caught the attention of the series creator Neil Druckmann.

Last month, The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal was cast to play Joel Miller in HBO’s series adaption of The Last Of Us. Now, a recent piece of fan art that imagines Pascal as Miller got the attention of the creator of the video game franchise.

The upcoming series is based on Neil Druckmann’s popular 2013 Sony PlayStation video game. The Last of Us Part II was released last June and sold over four million copies worldwide in just three days. It was awarded game of the year and ended up breaking numerous PlayStation grossing records.

Written by Druckmann and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, The Last of Us series will follow Pascal’s Joel and Bella Ramsey’s 14-year-old Ellie as they journey across the United States following the collapse of modern society. The two characters are forced to depend on each other for survival as they travel out of an oppressive quarantine zone. Of course, beyond the quarantine zone lies the threat of cannibalistic humans and creatures infected by a mutated fungus. Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov was tapped to direct the first episode.

Danish freelance artist Julie Damgaard posted a drawing of what she thought Pascal would look like as Joel. Neil Druckmann not only retweeted her drawing, but he also called the hyper-realistic portrait “rad." The 22-year-old artist stated on Twitter that she drew the viral fan art from scratch. Damgaard has posted over 500 drawings on her popular Instagram account.

Despite never appearing on screen together, Pascal and Ramsey both had fan-favorite roles on Game Thrones. Pascal was last seen in Wonder Woman 1984 and the second season of the hit Disney Plus series The MandalorianDeadline reported that the 45-year-old star would continue on the Star Wars series, but will be used sparingly since his character frequently wears a helmet. Meanwhile, Ramsey recently appeared in six episodes of His Dark Materials and the film Judy. HBO has not stated when The Last Of Us will be released. PlayStation boss Jim Ryan recently noted that the series hasn’t started filming.

Druckmann’s other popular video game franchise, Uncharted, is notably being adapted for the big screen. Directed by Ruben Fleischer (Venom), Uncharted stars Tom Holland as Nathan Drake and Mark Wahlberg as Drake’s mentor Victor “Sully” Sullivan. The film is a prequel to the video game series and will center on a younger version of the titular character. Holland recently made news for comparing Uncharted to Indiana Jones and James Bond. After being stuck in development for over a decade, Uncharted is expected to be released on February 11, 2022.
