Overwatch has announced a slight delay in their season change that will allow players more time to explore Season 26 and earn a few more tiers.

Overwatch fans will have to wait a little bit longer before Season 27 will make an appearance. The popular shooter game's developers have announced that the current competitive season will be extended for a few days. While Overwatch Season 27 is still planned to release soon, the developers encountered an issue with the March 4th release date.

The developers at Blizzard Entertainment have tried numerous fixes to prepare Season 27 for release. Despite their best efforts, the Overwatch season is being delayed, with an unknown release date hovering in the near future. This season extension will allow players a few more days to earn Season 26 rewards but does mean that fans will have to wait for the next big update.

The announcement was made in a blog post on Blizzard's website. Josh Nash, Blizzard's Community Manager, revealed that the decision was made in the interest of time. While the team works on a fix for Season 27, players will have to remain in Season 26 past the original update date of March 4th. For the moment, players will be greeted with a tag stated that the current season ends in less than a minute. If everything goes according to Blizzard's plan for Overwatch, then Season 27 will be released next week with a target date of March 9th. Till then, everything is being left as is, and the players can act as if Season 26 never ended at all.

Players who climb in Overwatch rank during this time period will be able to receive the rewards and competitive credits as normal. Any Top 500 players who have claimed their rewards won't get duplicates during the season end, but this is a good chance for other players to earn a few more ranks before the season switch goes into effect.

Fans are taking the delay with a mixed reception as many players wonder what could have gone wrong on the developer end. Still, extra time to complete Season 26 objectives is a welcome sight as some Overwatch fans were close to earning their next tier. While the delay is only for a few days, it is still longer before fans can dive in for Season 27s content.

Overwatch has been going for several years now, and delays do occur upon occasion. With the game spreading across multiple platforms with competitive communities in every circle, it is only a matter of time before something goes wrong. Despite this, the developers tend to be quick when repairing problems within this popular team shooter title.

Overwatch is available on PC, PS4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch.
