Everwild could be an incredibly unique entry into the exploration genre of gaming, according to recent posts from Rare developers.

In response to a job listing, a Rare developer promoted the post by saying the studio's game Everwild is something the world "doesn't have and hasn't seen before," implying that Rare aims to make Everwild a groundbreaking title in mainstream gaming.

Rare first announced Everwild back in November 2019 with an announcement trailer at the X019 event. During that time, Sea of Thieves had gained much momentum and became regarded as one of the best games Rare had ever made by multiple news outlets. But it's not strange to see Rare suddenly pivot to a new IP with completely different gameplay. Not much is known about Everwild aside from what's been shown in the trailers, but it's a new action-adventure that focuses on the relationship between the explorers known as the Eternals and animals in this fantasy world.

Since the first announcement of Everwild, Rare has been boasting that it's supposed to be a unique game with much potential. And a recent LinkedIn post from Rare's Lead Designer James Blackham reaffirms that notion. Originally, Rare promoted a job listing for a Senior Games Designer for Everwild, saying that the role was "particularly rare and special." Blackham reposted it, saying that Everwild is something "the world doesn't have and hasn't seen before," which is nothing short of a bold statement to make.

Again, while the trailers of Everwild released so far have shed some light on the game's overall design, they don't actually show what the narrative will be or what gameplay is going to be like. All that's known is it's a magical world filled with mythical creatures. One scene shows the Eternals healing a hurt animal using a ritual, meaning that Everwild could be a completely non-violent exploration game, which would certainly be unique to mainstream gaming.

That being said, given that Rare is currently looking to fill a major position, that means Everwild still has much room to grow and develop before it releases. And these comments from Rare's developers concern some fans. Some commenters are skeptical that the industry can make something so different from what's already out there. Another believes that Rare might be overhyping its own game by stating something so bold.

A release date or window hasn't been announced for Everwild yet either, meaning that it's likely still very far off. Still, that hasn't stopped fans from speculating about the game, such as believing Everwild will be a multiplayer like Sea of Thieves.

Everwild is currently in development for PC and Xbox Series X.
