Call of Duty: Warzone fans have encountered no shortage of rumors about the game’s supposed nuke event, with seemingly every week bringing about fresh teasers and leaks. However, while some players may have been quick to lose hope due to this event not launching today, a few Call of Duty: Warzone leakers have started to push a new date instead.
Though several sources initially reported that Call of Duty: Warzone’s nuke event would kick off on March 11, this day has come, and there are no nukes to be seen. While this could be viewed as a bad sign for hopeful fans, it is hardly the first time that the rumors have died down and the nuke event has seemingly been pushed back. Further, with the nuke supposedly only coming once Zombies have overrun Verdansk, it would make little sense for the bomb to be dropped today, as Zombies are currently only seen inside the shipwreck.

Reputable Call of Duty leaker @Modern Warzone, one of the key sources of information regarding the nuke leaks, shared the new start date of April 22 through Twitter. Claiming to have received the info through VGC, another website that has proven to be correct with Call of Duty: Warzone info in the past, most fans seem to find this new date believable. With VGC also suggesting that Verdansk’s replacement will be 80s-themed, the two leakers have given players much of the info they have about the planned explosion.
Other leakers like @WarzoneNewz and @ZestyCODLeaks have chipped in as well. The former shared some leaked dialogue from the Plague game mode tied to the event, while the latter shared the game mode’s description. Supposedly, players will have to purge each infected area of Zombies. If they fail, a nuke will be dropped, with players having 5 minutes to reach an exfil chopper. Once the bomb hits, Verdansk will supposedly be removed forever, with its replacement added to the game immediately.
While needing to wait an entire month may be disappointing to fans desperate for a new map, @ModernWarzone did suggest that today may still bring a change to Verdansk. According to the leaker, Shipwreck’s Zombies will spread to the prison. This change has been properly teased by Activision, as Call of Duty: Warzone streamer swag mentions that the Gulag will soon become the “Ghoul-ag.” With Zombies seemingly confirmed for the location, and the nuke event now scheduled for April 22, it would make sense for the outbreak to grow larger sooner rather than later.
Still, it is worth noting that only content related to the Call of Duty: Warzone Zombies takeover has been officially teased. As such, like all other nuke event rumors, this April 22 start date should be taken with a grain of salt.
Call of Duty: Warzone is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
