Normal-type Pokemon are seen as somewhat of the "standard" typing in Pokemon even though starter Pokemon are usually Fire, Water, or Grass. This is because almost all Pokemon games start with Normal-types being the first Pokemon encountered in the wild. They have some key advantages in battle, such as an immunity to Ghost-types, and their sole weakness is Fighting-type moves.
