In the coming months, PlayStation users will no longer be able to purchase anything from the PS3, PSP, or PS Vita stores. For PlayStation fans who still actively use these platforms, or those who wish to experience older games on their original systems, this is potentially concerning news. However, there is still time for players to pick up some of the best PS1 games available on either of these stores.
During the PlayStation 3 era, a lot of classic PS1 games were made available for purchase digitally through the PlayStation store, over 250 in total. Most of these games were also available to purchase on the PlayStation handheld stores as well. While some of these games will still be available to purchase on the PS4 and PS5 stores, some will be going away once the stores shut down.

Some of the best games to release on the PS1, such as the original Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid 1, are still available to purchase on the PS3. In addition to those two, numerous classic Final Fantasy titles are available to purchase on the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita as well. Luckily, the Final Fantasy games will remain on the PS4 store.
For JRPG fans who are looking for something more obscure, cult classic titles such as Legend of Dragoon, Xenogears, and the Parasite Eve series are purchasable now. For those who have recently gotten into the Persona series, Persona 1 and both installments of Persona 2 will remain purchasable until the shut down.
It should be said that these games in particular are just a drop in the bucket compared to all of the PS1 games currently available for digital purchase. With over 250 PS1 games for players to choose from, it's important for users to act now, before all three stores permanently shut down. Although, just because these stores are shutting down, that doesn't exactly mean that these games will be gone for good.
As remakes and remasters of older games on newer platforms continue to become more ambitious and commonplace, it seems likely that a lot of these classic games will not be forgotten. Fans have been campaigning for a Legend of Dragoon remake for years, and given the recent success of Persona 4 Golden on PC it seems that a lot these titles could be made available again in the future. For now, PlayStation fans will have to make the most of the current situation.
