According to a recent interview with the VP of Augmented and Virtual Reality at Facebook, the Oculus Quest 2 is performing extremely well.

The Oculus Quest 2 is off to a spectacular start. The Oculus Quest 2 launched back in October of 2020 to great reviews, but many still wondered how it would do in terms of sales, as virtual reality seems to have taken quite some time to settle in terms of mainstream perspective. However, according to a recent Bloomberg interview with Andrew Bosworth, VP of Augmented and Virtual Reality at Facebook, the Oculus Quest 2 has sold extremely well.

Numbers have already indicated that Oculus Quest 2 games have been selling wonderfully. It is one thing to have the tech itself sell, but software sales need to be high as well for long-term success. According to this recent interview, Bosworth says that the Oculus Quest 2 is drastically outperforming its predecessors.

When asked if the Oculus Quest 2 is hitting mainstream success--as opposed to being something that early adopters enjoy alone--Bosworth answered by claiming that the Oculus Quest 2 has outsold every Oculus predecessor put together. That means that in five short months (since the Quest 2 has been on the market since October of 2020) the Oculus Quest 2 has outsold the Oculus Rift, Oculus Rift S, Oculus Go, and the Oculus Quest combined.

It should not be a surprise that the Oculus Quest 2 is a success overall. There are countless positives to the technology, including the lack of wires, the fact that it does not need to be hooked up to another device (PC/Console), etc. It is amazing to see how far VR technology has come so far. That being said, there likely are not many who would have predicted that the Oculus Quest 2 would have outsold all other Oculus VR devices combined already.
