For many Minecraft players, the true fun of the game is in building incredible things using creative mode. While playing in this game mode, players can fly, spawn any kind of material, ignore enemies, use commands, and more, making it ideal for those that simply want to flex their creative muscles. As part of the upcoming snapshot update for the Java Edition, players will now be able to use Light Blocks in their builds, a brand new type of block with unique uses.
The Light Block cannot be obtained naturally in the game, meaning players will have to use the /give command to get it. Although it is similar to other blocks in the way that it is placed, it differs in almost every other aspect. Minecraft's new block is more akin to air blocks, or rather the absence of blocks, with one defining feature.

After placing a light block, that space remains open, but players will now be able to adjust the light level of that block independent of all others around it. While this may seem rather unimportant, it provides players complete control over the lighting of their builds regardless of where and how many light sources they have.
Skilled builders will be able to use this new block to create mood lighting for their builds. For example, a cavern might be dimly lit now even if there are no torches to be found, or a hallway filled with glowstone blocks might be darker than one might expect. This could create a cool effect where the glowstone block itself is visible but everything else is dark. The possibilities are limitless, and the Light Block should be coming to all versions of the game this Summer with the Caves and Cliffs update.
Minecraft is available now on Mobile, PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One.
