Nobody likes to be told they're playing with the worst class in Outriders. Like many looter games, gamers, even hardcore ones, are often more focused on the entertainment of the experience than optimization and min/maxing. If a class is fun to play and it can beat the game, then who cares what somebody has to say about it?

That's a solid stance to take, but the endgame experience is going to be grouping up in threes. And if players are using inferior builds and dragging the team down, then "the entertainment of the experience" will be significantly reduced. Thankfully, it's never too late to change course from one of the weaker sub-classes into one of the stronger ones.
Updated on August 14th, 2021 by Hodey Johns: Those who have been playing Outriders since the beginning will hardly be surprised that this list looks nothing like it did after debuting right after launch day. The Devastator, once ranked as the worst class in the game without any dispute, is now among the top while all three ammo builds from the other classes got nerfed after a single week. Given these developments and some time to play with each build more extensively, this list has been modified to account for the patches, balanced, and community discoveries that have led to the current state of Outider's end game content.
12 Pyromancer - Fire Storm
Some rankers even invent an entire bottom tier for this build alone. In concept, mixing Anomaly Power and physical damage should make the Pyromancer a class capable of dealing damage to anybody regardless of strengths and weaknesses.

In actuality, it makes the Fire Storm completely generic. It excels at nothing. Top this off with the lack of a debuff or buff that it could lend to a party and this build stands out in a way it really doesn't want to.
11 Technomancer - Tech Shaman
This build was the best in the game at release. As the game's one true healer class, the Tech Shaman was capable of hauling subpar groups through difficult world rifts and keeping everyone alive.
In hindsight, this dropoff should have been predictable. Almost every class is capable of self-healing, shielding, defense, or dodging once they are geared up. Now that most players are geared up, the need for a healer has taken a tragic dive.
10 Trickster - Assassin
Back when people mistakenly thought that the Trickster was the worst class in the game probably did so because of this build. It does deal a moderate amount of physical damage, but its biggest weakness seems baked into the build.
In rotation, the Assassin must spend chunks of time out of combat or in hiding. It is indeed fun to play, and it even looks good after acquiring Tanner's hat, but given that world tiers are climbed by doing loads of damage as quickly as possible, this isn't the best choice out there.
9 Pyromancer - Ash Breaker
While it's natural to wonder why a player might pick a Pyromancer only to specialize in physical damage, those questions are answered by the inclusion of a single status effect.
Inflicting the Ash status stuns enemies and renders them unable to move, shoot, or cast spells. The damage is the least of the three Pyromancer builds, but there is a reason it's so popular in groups. Being able to stun bosses and preventing them from moving turns some of the toughest fights into some of the easiest.
8 Pyromancer - Tempest
It's quite logical that a class built around fire does the most damage when enhancing all of its fire damage. Of all the Pyromancer builds, an ideal Tempest build will outpace the others in terms of raw damage.
This build was featured before the game was released. Ammunition builds quickly gained popularity, even after the nerf, but the Tempest build has remained the natural choice for any player that wants to deal pure Anomaly Power.
7 Devastator - Seismic Shifter
The Seismic Shifter, on day one, was at the bottom of this list, but times have been good to this build thanks to a beefing up of Anomaly Power across the board and the Devastator's natural ability to be close to the action.
Games like Outriders are at their best when they allow players to be creative. The Devastator might not seem like a caster, but it's actually incredibly capable of doing huge damage numbers to groups up close and healing itself. The solo damage has a lot to be desired, but other than that, this is a solid selection.
6 Technomancer - Demolisher
By maximizing Decay and the Blighted Turret, this could be the easiest solo class in the game. It's doing damage even while it's running around, and there is plenty of running around to do.
Not every map has cover to hide behind, which can be a bit of a weakness for this build, but the increase to Anomaly Power can overcome this flaw by killing enemies before they can penetrate the Technomancer's defenses.
5 Technomancer - Pestilence
This is going to be the favored build of snipers all over. It's astounding that Outriders has an impressive lineup of sniper and marksman rifles but nobody puts them to better use than the Pestilence Technomancer.
The weapon damage is intense already, but don't neglect the Toxic status effect as well. Damage over time in addition to burst damage makes the Pestilence Technomancer a well-rounded damage machine.
4 Trickster - Harbinger
Dead Tricksters do no damage, so plenty of gamers find that the Harbinger build is actually the proverbial cream of the DPS crop due to their ability to stay alive. Their advantages aren't just restricted to tanking, however.
Aside from being one of the best co-op story games on the PS5, Outriders also succeeds because it doesn't force their tanks to go through a power outage. A second player will see that the Harbinger's damage against clusters of ranged enemies dispatches them in no time.
3 Devastator - Vanquisher
When leveling up with the Devastator, it can be frustrating to feel like the class has no power. It's easily the hardest class to power through the early game with default world tiers selected. The Vanquisher build can make this climb bearable by increasing weapon damage.
RELATED: Outriders: How To Save Your Game
Many prefer the Vanquisher to the Warden simply because the Devastator is already plenty tanky. So why not take advantage of this tankiness and do some real damage in return?
2 Devastator - Warden
The Warden is the single toughest build to actually... build. It requires very specific armor, weapons, and skills. The investment is well worth it as they'll be able to cast Boulderdash with virtually no cooldown, healing themselves and damaging others.
It gains damage by being tanky and gets tanky by doing damage; the perfect storm. Tack on the right gear and not only is it the unquestionably best tank for groups that crave one, it's unkillable in solo play. There is a reason people debate whether the Trickster or the Devastator is the best in the game right now.
1 Trickster - Reaver
Looking back, it's funny that there was a time when the Trickster was once considered "fun in single-player but not all that good." Gamers suggested that they should change the character's appearance to look more awesome than it actually is.
It's all treats and no tricks now for the Reaver, who deals extra anomaly damage. Considering that Twisted Rounds are anomaly damage, this burst is so significant that all but bosses will fall in single strikes from shotguns. And the bosses won't be much further behind.
