Amidst the current GPU shortages that are plaguing PC gamers, Nvidia may be about to re-release its GTX 1650 cards to placate awaiting customers.

Despite the market becoming flooded with new hardware over the past few months, PC gamers are struggling to get hold of any top of the line GPUs as supplies remain low just about everywhere. While there's no one specific factor that can be blamed for the lack of stock, some suggest bots and cryptominers buying up as many graphics cards as playing a huge role in the deficit. The situation got to such an extent that Nvidia and AMD began to contemplate manufacturing GPUs specifically for cryptmining in order to split the market.

With buyers and companies now feeling the recession, rumors have begun to spread that Nvidia may be looking to relaunch its GeForce GTX 1650 range in order to plug the gap. A recent report indicates that Nvidia were originally focusing on graphics cards for mobile devices at the start of the year. However, since the shortages, it's alleged that the chipmaker may increase its supply starting this month, which could see the 1650 making a return.

Part of the 16 series, the GeForce GTX 1650 was originally released in February 2019 which coincided with the launch of a series of laptops which came pre-built with the graphics chip touted by Nvidia. Being that the card is just over two years old at this stage, and features 4GB of memory in both the GDDR5 and GDDR6 versions, it's unlikely to be a top performer, but it should provide a stopgap while PC gamers wait for the much newer products to become available again.

This is also not the first time Nvidia have re-released old stock as a temporary solution to the current shortages. Earlier this year, the company announced it would be reintroducing its RTX 2060 and 2060 Super GPUs back into the market. Given that the latter was released just a few months after the 1650, and has 8GB of GDDR6 memory, it's likely to be the strongest of the re-launches, but all cards will hopefully keep gamers happy in the meantime.

With the word that AMD and Nvidia GPU shortages could go on into 2022, there's no telling what will come next in order to fill this extended gap in the market. Perhaps both companies will continue to bring back old stock in a sort of rudimentary attempt to keep supplies and profits ticking over. It's hard to imagine what methods either AMD or Nvidia will think of next in between twiddling their thumbs, but at this point they've got to be getting a little desperate.
