Techland confirms that while Dying Light 2 will feature support characters, the game won't actually have recruitable NPCs at all.

When Dying Light 2 finally arrives, it won't include one often requested feature. That doesn't mean that the development team has completely ruled out bringing the feature to Dying Light 2 DLC.

A swatch of information about the upcoming game hit recently. Techland shared quite a bit of its plans when it comes to details like the size of Dying Light 2's map. It turns out users will be able to run around what appears to be a pretty massive world. When they are running around that rather large map, they will apparently run into quite a few colorful characters. Unfortunately, once players meet those characters, they won't be able to get them to take up their cause, at least for long periods of time.

During a recent interview with WCCFTech, Lead Game Designer, Tymon Smektała opened up about how players will interact with NPCs in Dying Light 2. It turns out that there won't be any kind of romancing like players might see in a game like Mass Effect. In fact, it doesn't appear players will even really be able to call these characters real allies.

Tymon said there is not mechanic where players will be able to fully recruit NPCs like in games like Far Cry 5. However, Tymon was quick to point out this isn't a situation where NPCs will always sit out the action. He added there will be times when these characters will join the fight for short periods of time. They'll battle enemies for very specific missions. Users simply won't be able to form a "crew" inside the game.

However, Tymon also made it clear the idea of recruiting NPCs is something that appeals to him. While it's not planned for the main game, he did say there's a chance some Dying Light 2 DLC could offer the feature.

Before that DLC arrives, it sounds like players will have plenty to see and do in Dying Light 2's main story. In the same interview, Tymon said just the opening part of the game will take about seven to eight hours to complete. Extrapolating that out to the rest of the story, it seems as if users will be able to spend quite a bit of time in-game. As Techland did with the first title, the company has said it's going to pack plenty into the open-world aspect, meaning users will have plenty of control as to how long they actually spend on the story.

Dying Light 2 is in development for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
