With 10 days left to go on its Kickstarter campaign, Vokabulantis is a stop-motion, story-rich game with puzzles and platforming set to release in 2024 if the Kickstarter is fully funded by its deadline.
Stop-motion is an extremely time-consuming art form. Putting together just a few minutes of footage takes thousands of shots, and for each one of those shots, the artist must slightly reposition the models. But for developer Esben Kjaer Ravn, he aims to use this style of clay art to create the stunning world of Vokabulantis and each carefully crafted object within it. Vokabulantis is partially made for kids, or more specifically, Ravn's kids, and he hopes to make them feel fear while also laughing and crying at the emotional journey in his game as an alternative to "sugar coated pop" normally geared towards keeping children entertained.

Much like the action co-op platformer It Takes Two, Vokabulantis is meant to be played by two people, assuming the role of a couple who can no longer communicate after their words are taken away. Now, they must restore peace to Vokabulantis and figure out how to express their feelings for one another. Vokabulantis is largely about language, beginning just as the two are confessing their feelings for one another.
The Kickstarter campaign says that Vokabulantis is inspired by other puzzle platformers such as Little Nightmares, Unravel, and Inside, so fans of the genre should look forward to its release in a few years.
To support game developer Kong Orange and stop-motion animation studio Wired Fly, obtaining the full game for two people is about $30, but fans can also purchase the demo for two for about $12.
While this Kickstarter campaign featuring 2D puzzle platforming might be years ahead of its final release, Vokabulantis just might be worth the wait.
Vokabulantis is set to release in December 2024 for PC.
