Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance is bringing some of the most iconic characters from the tabletop game's world to video games with four-player action co-op later this year. There is a lot still unknown about the game, but it's now been announced that Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance will not have a beta test, as some players were expecting.
Dungeons and Dragons is deeply rooted in the history of video games. Practically every RPG released has built its systems, at least in part, based on Dungeons and Dragons' pioneering systems of RPG gameplay. The franchise also boasts many releases in the games industry, with titles such as Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, and Icewind Dale all playing a large role in the early development of RPG video games.

In a recent Twitter thread, developer Tuque Games opened up a Q&A session to shed some light on excited fans' biggest questions. To the disappointment of many fans, the thread answers the question of whether or not Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance will have a beta test with a definitive no. The developer did say that it has had playtests, but that there is no plan for a beta or alpha.
The decision to not have a beta has brought up some reasonable concerns from the game's community of fans looking forward to the game. With recent releases of online titles like Outriders having so many problems at launch, the lack of a beta test to help developers find and work on those issues before release can be worrying for anxious players. Of course, many online games have very smooth launches without having a beta test before release, including Tuque Games' previous release Livelock, so the lack of one here does not necessarily condemn the title to a rocky launch, and fans shouldn't be too worried about the situation.
The Q&A thread also has a lot of other great details on Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance, and is well worth a look for anyone looking forward to the title, especially as the developers continue to answer questions. So far the title looks to be a fast-paced action title, and the world of Dungeons and Dragons has a lot of potential for the game to draw from. But only time will tell what shape the title will launch in when the game releases later this summer, due to the lack of a beta.
Dungeons and Dragons: Dark Alliance releases on June 22, 2021, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
