Grand Theft Auto 6 needs to keep some things from it's predecessor, Grand Theft Auto 5, and forgo other features to innovate Rockstar's formula.

Grand Theft Auto 6 has gone on to become gaming's biggest rollercoasters in recent memory. Grand Theft Auto 5 has been a humongous success, and Rockstar seems to be keen on capitalizing on the success train by simultaneously pumping out more content for the game. However, the rumor mill continues to churn for the next game while zealous fans clamor for more information.

It seems highly unlikely at the moment that fans may receive any information regarding Grand Theft Auto 6. While it could very well be a radical departure from the series' mostly familiar formula, there are a few features it should forgo, and others that it should keep from Grand Theft Auto 5.

The biggest thing that GTA 6 needs to keep from the predecessors is the multi-part heist missions. Grand Theft Auto 5 features some of the best high-octane missions in the series, and it makes sense to keep these heists an integral part of the experience for the next game. Since speculation suggests that GTA 6 might build upon the crime-thriller roots of the franchise, there's a decent chance that heists make a return.

Another signature thing that GTA 6 should keep from GTA 5 and earlier GTA games by extension is the ragdoll physics. For the uninitiated, ragdoll physics allows for free-form floating of objects and characters in the space which can result in hilarious jumps and deaths. Since the feature has gone on to become quite an iconic and hilarious part of the series, there are already many reasons to keep them in the game.

GTA 6 may need to abandon some open-world tropes seen in GTA 5, the most prominent of it being a somewhat empty open world. This might sound ironic, as GTA 5's Los Santos serves as an example for great open-world design, but it's time that Rockstar steps it up a notch in the department. While GTA 5's Los Santos and its outskirts may be one of the most visually impressive settings for video games, it doesn't have much to do except the handful of side activities and the short but numerous Strangers and Freaks missions.

In addition to this, GTA 6 should forgo the three-protagonist structure found in GTA 5 and instead focus on a single character for the narrative. While GTA 5's three protagonists proved to be a groundbreaking feature for the time, there isn't enough room for scaling and building upon what's already been done before. Furthermore, many fans would love Rockstar to give more thought to making the protagonist a richly realized, multi-faceted personality, as opposed to mostly stereotypical criminals fans have been playing as all along.

While nitpicky, GTA 6 should forgo the many filler missions found in GTA 5. Most fans would rather rob a bank or steal some shiny cars rather than slowly towing trucks or stacking crates, which is why Rockstar should steer away from such missions. Hopes and rumors run rampant for GTA 6, and hopefully, Rockstar delivers on the long wait that fans have gone through.

Grand Theft Auto 5 is out now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions are launching in 2021.
