The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Nintendo Switch has been a hit. If you're going to play, we can advise you on weaponry...

Breath of the Wild is a really fun game with a huge open world to explore. There's so much to do and so many enemies to take on that it can really suck the player in. It's easy to put a ton of time into the game, collecting all the armor and discovering all the secrets. One thing that irritates some players is the fact that the weapons break so quickly. Luckily, there are a ton of other weapons in the game that players can choose from.

Some of these weapons are totally powerful and awesome while others... Are not so great. With limited space for weapons, it can be tough to decide which ones to hold onto and which ones to toss out when you need room.

Updated April 8, 2021 by Ritwik Mitra: The weapon durability mechanic in Breath of the Wild is a hot topic of contention among the fanbase, although most people generally agree that this mechanic definitely allows for experimentation in combat and allows for some tense scenarios as well. That being said, there are some weapons that are worth reserving for a particularly challenging combat situation, while other weapons are better off avoided. Here's a look at both kinds of weapons that one can get in the games.

15 Best: Master Sword

Of all the weapons in Breath of the Wild, the Master Sword is by far the best. This weapon is a special one because it doesn't actually break, it just needs to be recharged after being used for a while. But this powerful weapon and its special properties don't come without some sacrifices.

In order to get your hands on this iconic weapon, players must make their way through the Lost Woods. After getting through the Lost Woods, Link will find himself in the Korok Forest. There, the Great Deku Tree will talk to Link and, if you have enough hearts, you can take the Master Sword.

14 Worst: Bokoblin Arm

There are some super powerful weapons in Breath of the Wild and then there are some that are just not worth using. The Bokoblin Arm is a weapon that drops when you fight a Stalkoblin, the skeleton form of a Bokoblin.

If you're just getting started in the game and really don't have a ton of option, weapons like the Bokoblin Arm are pretty good. They do a decent amount of damage to early enemies, but they break quickly and are basically useless against the late enemies. Definitely toss this aside for a better weapon as soon as possible!

13 Best: Savage Lynel Crusher

This two-handed weapon is really difficult to get your hands on, but it's definitely worth it. This weapon is one of the three Lynel weapons that are available in the game and is the most powerful of the three of them. The Savage Lynel Crusher is dropped by Silver Lynels and White-Maned Lynels, two of the most powerful Lynels in the game.

This weapon has some serious attack power and does quite a bit of damage. If it's paired with a set of armor like the Barbarian Set, then the damage boost makes it among the best weapons in the game. It's definitely worth facing off against that White-Maned Lynel to get!

12 Worst: Lizal Boomerang

The Lizal Boomerang is a useful weapon in that it can either be thrown like a boomerang or used close up as a melee weapon. Although the fact that it can be used two different ways can come in handy, it's really not that powerful of a weapon. It's fine against early enemies and works if you're desperate for something to defend yourself, but it's easily outclassed by other weapons.

This weapon is dropped by the Lizalfos that Link faces off against and is one of three different boomerangs that Lizalfos will drop. Unfortunately, the Lizalfos Boomerang is actually the weakest of the three boomerangs and just not worth keeping.

11 Best: Ancient Battle Axe++

The Ancient Battle Axe++ is the strongest of the Ancient Battle Axes that can be found in the game. All the weapons that were made by Guardian Scouts are pretty powerful, but the Ancient Battle Axe++ is by far one of the best.

This is the weapon that is used by the strongest Guardian Scouts. Anyone who has faced off against them in Major Test of Strength shrines in Breath of the Wild will know that Guardian Scouts are no joke. The Ancient Battle Axe++ has a base damage of 60 which can be increased through armor sets and dishes.

10 Worst: Zora Spear

Of all the Zora weapons that can be found in Zora's Domain, the Zora Spear is by far the weakest. It can be found in different places around Zora's Domain and is often held by Lizalfos in the area, meaning that it's a relatively common weapon. If you're in a pinch, it can be easy to find one to defend yourself, but isn't a weapon that should be used longterm.

Despite the fact that it's pretty weak with a base damage of only 9, it's still a useful weapon. If Link loses or damages either the Lightscale Trident or the Ceremonial Trident, the Zora Spear can be used to repair them and get them back in working order. So, it's useful... Just not for battling against enemies.

9 Best: Elemental Weapons

The elemental weapons that are available in Breath of the Wild aren't incredibly common, but the definitely are really useful. These are among the best weapons in the game, not necessarily because they do a ton of damage, but because of the elemental bonuses they have.

There are lightning, fire, and ice-based weapons in the game. If possible, it can be handy to have one of each in your inventory at all times. They instantly eliminate elemental enemies if used correctly. For instance, the fire-based weapons will immediately take out an Ice-Breath Lizalfos.

8 Worst: Boko Club

Along with the tree branch, the Boko Club is likely one of the first weapons that Link will find after he sets out on his journey through Hyrule. This weapon is held by the Bokoblins and is often found leaned up against logs at their campsites.

Because this weapon is found so early in the game, it's obviously not going to be one of the best weapons in the game. Even the weapon's description points out that it's basically just a really thick stick and that it has a horrible durability. Paired with its low damage, it's best to toss this aside as soon as possible.

7 Best: Royal Guard's Claymore

The Royal Guard's Claymore is a version of the Royal Claymore that can only be found at Hyrule Castle. Because of the number of Guardians that are roaming the grounds and are at the castle, ready to take out anyone that comes too close, it can be pretty dangerous to try to get this weapon.

Even though it has a lower durability than the Royal Claymore, the Royal Guard's Claymore that is dropped by enemies in Hyrule Castle is still a pretty great weapon. It has a base attack power of 72, higher than the 52 that the regular Royal Claymore has.

6 Worst: Fishing Harpoon

The Fishing Harpoon is far from the best weapon in the game. Even when it comes to simply fishing and catching fish to make food out of, the Fishing Harpoon is pretty mediocre. Simply tossing a bomb into the water from Link's bomb rune is better than trying to catch fish with it.

And as a weapon against enemies, the Fishing Harpoon only has a base attack power of 8. If you're early in the game and desperately need something to take on a Bokoblin, this isn't the worst choice, but it's definitely inferior to others in the game.

5 Best: Demon Carver

For the most part, the Yiga Footsoldiers end up carrying bows that end up getting rather obsolete as the player ends up getting better quality bows over the course of their game's progression.

However, after a while, these Footsoldiers will start carrying Demon Carvers instead, which are excellent one-handed weapons that can deal quite some damage indeed. Just make sure that Link doesn't end up on the receiving end of this weapon's blows one too many times.

4 Worst: Korok Leaf

The Korok Leaf is easily the most unique item that one can keep... but one has to admit that its usefulness in combat is a bit too situation for this "weapon" to occupy a slot in Link's arsenal.

Unless the enemy is at the end of a cliff or near a body of water, there's not really any practical use for the Korok Leaf in a pure combat situation.

3 Best: Edge of Duality

The Edge of Duality is easily one of the best two-handed swords in the game, allowing for Link to use this Shiekah blade to great effect in battle and decimate most foes with the greatest of ease.

While finding this weapon can be a pain at times due to its inherent rarity, players who end up attaining this weapon should definitely treasure it and use the blade in only the direst combat situation around.

2 Worst: Tree Branch

The tree branch is a complete embarrassment as a weapon, and should never be used once the player ends up progressing in the game and dealing with harder and more challenging enemies.

The only time this weapon could be even slightly useful is if it's lit on fire... and even then, the weapon will burn out in second, making its usefulness close to zero in a combat situation.

1 Best: Savage Lynel Bow

Lynels have some of the best equipment in the entire game, with the Savage Lynel Bow being one such item that is a must-have for anyone who wants to stock up on the best bows in the game.

The Savage Lynel Bow hits like a truck, with the 5-shot variant easily serving as one of the most powerful ranged weapons in the entirety of Breath of the Wild.
