Pokemon GO trainers manage to unlock a Research Breakthrough reward in February 2021 are going to have the chance to earn an exciting encounter.

A new season is about to begin in Pokemon GO and when the Season of Legends kicks off on March 1, trainers can expect to find a lot of changes in the game. In addition to new wild spawns, Egg hatches, and a handful of different bonuses coming in March, the first of the month will also bring a new Research Breakthrough reward for trainers to encounter a handful of times throughout the month.

Pokemon GO Trainers who earn seven stamps and claim a reward during March will be rewarded with a Gible encounter. Although that's not quite as exciting as a Legendary encounter like in the old days of Research Breakthrough, it's still a pretty good one. Gible's evolutions are relevant to the Pokemon GO meta game, so players should be able to use this opportunity to stock up on some extra Candy and hopefully encounter a near perfect spawn as well.

For those who aren't familiar, in order to claim a Research Breakthrough encounter trainers need to earn stamps by completing seven regular tasks in the mobile AR game. Only one stamp can be earned per day and players do need need to keep up a daily streak, though obviously earning a stamp a day leads to the most Research Breakthroughs possible in any given month.

"From Monday, March 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PST (GMT −8) to Thursday, April 1, 2021, at 1:00 p.m. PDT (GMT −7), you’ll encounter Gible in Research Breakthrough encounters."

There will likely be a major rotation of the available daily tasks in the game once March 1 rolls around, so be sure to keep an eye out for that update. Players can pick up tasks by heading out and visiting Pokestops around their community. Picking up daily tasks has become even less of a chore, since some are automatically assigned each day as part of the social distancing and play-at-home friendly measures that Niantic is taking to keep the game as safe as possible throughout the winter months.

Niantic has obviously intentionally moved away from the overpowered Legendary rewards for Research Breakthroughs and it doesn't seem like the game is heading back in that direction any time soon. It doesn't come has too much of a surprise, considering how many extra copies of the original Legendary Pokemon went to the trainer as Candy fodder in those early days when players were earning Legendary encounters on a weekly basis in the mobile AR game.

Over the next week or so players should begin to learn a lot more about what other events are on the way throughout the Season of Legends. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!

Pokemon GO is available on Android and iOS.
