Evolving Pokemon in Sword and Shield can usually be done by leveling them up or using a stone; evolving Pumpkaboo into Gourgeist is a different story.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield released in late 2019 for the Nintendo Switch and introduced Pokemon players to an entirely new region to explore. One of the big changes that came with the 8th generation of Pokemon was Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing. Pokemon can turn huge during battles against the gym leaders and unleash powerful moves onto their opponents. While the series has continued to grow and add new elements and mechanics, some things remain the same and one of those things is evolving Pokemon.

Most Pokemon in the pocket monster universe can evolve into a new form by simply battling Pokemon and gaining experience points. By reaching a certain level, Pokemon will transform and gain an increase in stats. However, there are different evolution methods out there that require trainers to do specific tasks instead of leveling a Pokemon up.

One Pokemon in Sword and Shield, Pumpkaboo, can evolve into a Gourgeist, but it's done by literally trading it with another trainer. Players must connect with another player, either online or locally, and give away their Pumpkaboo in exchange for another Pokemon. Of course, if players are trading with someone they know, that other player can just send the freshly evolved Gourgeist back to the original owner. It doesn't even matter what level the Pumpkboo is; whether it's level 5 or level 50, the Pokemon will evolve via a simple trade.

For players that are on the hunt to add a Pumpkaboo to their Pokemon party, they will want to look for them in these specific locales in the Galar region: Route 4, Giant's Mirror, and Hammerlocke Hills. Pumpkaboo isn't the most common Pokemon in these areas, but if trainers hang out in the areas for long enough, Pumpkaboo will eventually come out of hiding. It also should not be higher than level 30 or so, making it easy to deal damage to it and eventually capture it in a Poke Ball or Great Ball or what have you.

Pokemon Sword and Shield in 2019 is the latest mainline Pokemon title to be released. Although The Pokemon Company hasn't announced anything yet, there are lots of rumors that have fans speculating on a 2021 remake of Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, the 4th generation of Pokemon that released on the original DS. Something could be announced sooner rather than later, however, considering that Pokemon is in the middle of celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are now available exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
