Pokemon GO trainers are currently very busy enjoying the countdown to Pokemon GO Tour: Kanto, but there are lots of other smaller events between now and then to keep trainers busy. The end of January and beginning of February still have a few surprises in store and Niantic just revealed two new upcoming events that will offer players some limited research to complete in a hurry for special rewards.
Although the established list of January 2021 PoGO research has been locked in for weeks, things are in for a shakeup in the final days of January as both a Limited Research event and a new timed research storyline are both arriving in the game. The Pokemon GO Sneasel Limited Research will shake things up for just one day (January 30), but the new timed research will offer players nearly two whole weeks to work through a brand new Team GO Rocket storyline with a special reward.

Obviously the Sneasel Limited Research is going to be providing players with Sneasel encounters, but lucky players may also find themselves running into a shiny version of the Pokemon. That should be all the motivation that collectors need to log in and power through the Limited Research when it arrives on January 30. The new timed research on the other hand has a much more Legendary reward at the end of the road. Trainers who manage to complete the timed research by the February 7 deadline have the opportunity to encounter a Ho-Oh who knows Earthquake.
Get ready for a Limited Research event featuring Sneasel!
"On Saturday, January 30, 2021, from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time, you can complete event-exclusive Field Research tasks that lead to encounters with Sneasel. If you’re lucky, you might even encounter a Shiny Sneasel! You can also look forward to event-exclusive Timed Research."
"From Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. to Sunday, February 7, 2021, at 8:00 p.m. local time, you can complete a Team GO Rocket–themed Timed Research line that’ll lead to an encounter with a Ho-Oh that knows Earthquake. Good luck in completing this research challenge, Trainers!"
Both events have very promising rewards and are likely going to be very popular with the community. Keep in mind that they both also have a strict clock associated with them, so trainers won't want to waste any time. Interested players should mark their calendars now and get ready for the upcoming action.
As trainers continue working through these amazing Celebration events and enjoying the new era of the GO Beyond update as they count down to the next season, they may want to keep hunting down the best Unova Pokemon in the game if improving their Battle Raid rosters and completing their Pokedex is their primary goal. Be sure to check back in the near future for more Pokemon GO strategy guides, news, and updates. Until then, good luck out there, trainers!
