Marvel's Avengers Future Imperfect DLC final drops today, and Clint Barton's Hawkeye gets a gameplay trailer showing off his moves.
Marvel's Avengers fans experiencing difficulties with save data migration between PS4 and PS5 can rest easy, as the issue is reportedly fixed.

All Magic the Gathering Power 9 Cards | Game Rant

Written by
Magic: The Gathering's earliest cards have mostly become obsolete, but the Power Nine show that there's some cards that won't age out.

From now until April 26, World of Warcraft players can unlock pets for all WoW players by meeting some donation goals for medical humanitarian aid organization Doctors Without Borders. What lovable little creatures are available? It’s Bananas, the Monkey and Daisy, the Sloth. Awww! World of Warcraft regularly participates in charity events such as this one, generally with some adorable pets available as part of the program.

These donations are going specifically to the MSF COVID-19 Crisis Fund, which supports the Doctors Without Borders response to the COVID 19 pandemic on a global scale. Operating in over 70 countries, these teams are focused on protecting high-risk individuals and keeping medical services running during this ongoing crisis.

This time around, there are two big donation goals to meet as a collective which convey pets to all World of Warcraft players, so you don’t need to worry about hitting a certain donation tier as an individual to unlock anything. Note: These pets do not apply to World of Warcraft Classic and World of Warcraft Burning Crusade Classic.

At the $500,000 goal tier, players can collect Bananas, the Monkey. This pet was originally available to a special few during The Burning Crusade, this is a new and frankly unexpected opportunity for players to collect this elite critter.

At $1 million, Daisy the Sloth unlocks. This is a completely new cute addition to the pet roster, and marks the first time that a pet can be carried around on a player’s back. Adorable and stylish! Check out how it looks attached to a player below!

Want to contribute to the cause? Or are you just looking to accelerate the rise of those Daisies to bring them to every single dungeon, raid, and battleground? Either way, donations are currently being accepted at the official website here.

Ubisoft Warns Against Fake Far Cry 6 Demos

Hot on the heels of Capcom's warning against fake Resident Evil Village demos and Blizzard having to do the same with Diablo II: Resurrected, Ubisoft is now warning fans about a new scheme surrounding the Far Cry franchise. The studio is now warning Ubisoft fans to be on the lookout because fake Far Cry 6 demos are out in the wild.

As spotted by DSOGaming, Ubisoft has been sending out warning emails to gamers interested in Far Cry 6 to be wary. Fake Far Cry 6 demo emails have been spotted, claiming that the email in question holds an exclusive invitation to an Early Access period for the upcoming game. Ubisoft is standing firm that there is no demo planned for Far Cry 6 at this time and that any email claiming to offer access is a scam and should be avoided.

The email reads, “Some of our media and content creators are being sent fake emails using the Ubisoft domain, inviting you to take part in early access for Far Cry 6. Please ignore such emails. Our security teams are investigating.”

It's easy to understand why so many are interested in checking out the latest Far Cry game early, especially with all of the theories surrounding the cast that's been revealed. Luckily, many of these phishing schemes are fairly easy to spot. For now, keep an eye on Ubisoft and see official noticed there. If it's not from the studio, it's not credible.

Diablo II: Resurrection demos were faked earlier last month, but that situation got even odder when one developer called out the game's subreddit for supplementing scams like this. The mod's response: ban the dev that actually worked on the game, delete the original scam, and repost the same thing but without the developer's commentary. To ban a developer that worked on the game you're scamming is a bold move, but here we are.

Back on the topic of Far Cry 6, the upcoming game was initially set for a February 2021 release, but plans changed as the pandemic's impact continued to take its toll. Since then, Ubisoft has stated that it's shooting for an April release at the earliest and March 2022 at the very latest. Since it's past the halfway mark of March now, it's a pretty safe bet that the former isn't happening.

When Marvel's Avengers launched last year, developer Crystal Dynamics laid out ambitious post-launch support plans for the game. Unfortunately, those plans have been largely delayed due to the shift to working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic and various reprioritizations stemming from community reception. Today is a big day for Marvel's Avengers, and Crystal Dynamics is capitalizing on it with more announcements of what's to come this year.

It all starts with today's release of Clint Barton's Hawkeye and the launch of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S version of the game. Players can upgrade to the new-gen version free of charge, adding enhanced visuals and unique DualSense features for those playing on PlayStation 5. The patch that includes Hawkeye also adds the ability to replay the Reassemble campaign, as well as customizable HARM Rooms to really put your heroes to the test. However, to cap off Marvel's Avengers' big day, Crystal Dynamics also revealed its 2021 roadmap, which it hopes will give players myriad reasons to continue playing after they complete the primary story content.

The general approach Crystal Dynamics wanted to take with the game in 2021 is to address any remaining technical polish, update character progression, add quality-of-life improvements, ease repetition, and make players feel more powerful when controlling Earth's Mightiest Heroes. "We listen – we really do," says studio head Scot Amos. "We hear what you guys are saying. We hear what the press is saying, what the media is saying. It's our job to take all of that, process that – good and bad – and we're going to say, 'How do we use that to help adjust our philosophy?'"

The result is the Marvel's Avengers 2021 Content Roadmap. I caught up with Amos and lead game director Morgan Gray to learn more about what the future holds.

Tachyon Anomaly

Stemming from the events in Operation: Taking AIM and Operation: Future Imperfect, the Tachyon Anomaly events give a narrative reason for certain missions to feature multiple versions of the same hero. This means that if you want to play as four Hulks as you smash through a map or take to the skies as two Thors and two Iron Men, that's an option.

In addition to giving players the oft-requested feature for specific missions, Tachyon Anomaly also brings with it rewards for teaming up with multiple versions of the same hero. Additionally, a new Tachyon mission is joining the War Table, and Tachyon missions will be available more frequently for players. These missions will be open to power levels ranging from 1 to 100.

The Tachyon Anomaly missions begin this spring.

Marvel's Avengers

Marvel Cinematic Universe Inspiration

A common practice for living games is to react to real-world events with in-game celebrations and engagements. To this point, Marvel's Avengers hasn't had much crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the phenomenon that is WandaVision coming and going with no acknowledgement within Crystal Dynamics' game. However, that is changing with the impending release of Black Widow, which is scheduled to hit theaters this May.

Drawing inspiration from Natasha's backstory, a new Red Room Takeover event is coming to Marvel's Avengers this spring. Yelena Belova has placed surveillance chips in AIM bots, and the Avengers must defeat the enemies with the chips. Later, the HARM Room is hacked by Yelena and takes on a red visual style. The Avengers must complete a special challenge set up by Yelena to escape. The main menu will also take on a Red-Room-inspired look during the event.

As part of the Red Room Takeover event, players will begin seeing outfits inspired by the Marvel Cinematic Universe. "It's not a crossover by any means," Amos says. "It's more of an homage to stuff that we all know and love. People have been asking to see more of the MCU skins in our marketplace."

While we don't have an exact date for the Red Room Takeover event, Black Widow hits theaters on May 7, and the Red Room Takeover event is listed for spring release, so it would stand to reason the event will happen sometime around then.

Cosmic Cube

Readers of Marvel comics are likely well aware of the power of the Cosmic Cube and what it can mean for the story going forward, and in Marvel's Avengers, the insidious organization AIM is looking harness its power. Taking place in the Frozen Tundra, Monica has created a Cosmic Cube to help AIM become even more powerful.

The Cosmic Cube's reality-bending power loops Old Man Hawkeye into the fray as the Avengers take on Scientist Supreme in a new boss battle that features an army of tech-enhanced Monica clones. This also adds a new Villain Sector centered on Scientist Supreme, with a story that involves Hank Pym.

While this may seem like a standard, story-driven piece of content on its own, Amos hints at this being more of a jumping-off point for Marvel's Avengers. "This is the thing that can change the reality of the world ... of the universe, for that matter," he says. "All of [the story events to this point] lead up to this moment with the Cosmic Cube that gives the opportunity for really expanding our universe and what is possible. All of that is meant to be linked together. It's always been that expanding story. It's just taken us a bit longer than we would like to get those pieces strung out there for people to see it."

Scientist Supreme looks to introduce the Cosmic Cube into Marvel's Avengers later this year.

Marvel's Avengers

Omega-Level Threats

For players looking for the ultimate challenge, Omega-Level Threats are coming, taking existing encounters in Marvel's Avengers and cranking their difficulty up. The two Omega-Level Threat missions announced are Resolution, which features an amped up Super Adaptoid encounter from Operation: Taking AIM; and Cloning Labs, which is a four-player mission that spawns up to four Abominations for the team to take down. Completing these missions rewards players with unique gear, including Super Adaptoid gear for completing Resolution.

Wasteland Patrol

The Wasteland is introduced as a new biome in the game through Hawkeye's Operation: Future Imperfect today, but later this year, it will play host to a new War Zone mission type: Patrol mode. In this new game mode, players drop into a large map designed to allow them to move from one area to the next with no set objective. Instead, players decide where to go and what to engage with.

In the Wasteland Patrol, players can visit locales such as the Kree sentry graveyard, a ruined city, and a SHIELD stronghold. Crystal Dynamics plans on adding more goals to incentivize players to return over and over to complete the objectives within this mode.

Wasteland Patrol is set to arrive in Marvel's Avengers later this year.

War for Wakanda

Announced for later this year, Black Panther is joining the hero roster as a part of the larger War for Wakanda expansion. This free expansion adds Black Panther as a new playable hero, new hero outfits, a power level cap increase, new villains (including longtime Black Panther villain Klaw), a new Klaw faction for enemies, a new story, a new Wakandan jungle biome, and a new outpost.

Crystal Dynamics intentionally uses the word "expansion" instead of "Operation," which was used for Kate and Hawkeye's drops, to denote the size of the addition. "For us, when we talk about an expansion, there's an expectation we're setting for ourselves and for players that this is bigger than an Operation; this isn't just a hero drop," Amos says.

Black Panther and the War for Wakanda expansion arrives later this year. To learn more about this upcoming expansion, head here.

What About Spidey?

Last year, Crystal Dynamics and PlayStation announced that Spider-Man would be joining the Avengers exclusively on PlayStation consoles in early 2021. When I ask Amos for an update on everyone's favorite webslinger, he unfortunately can't say too much. "PR has allowed me to say that we have people working on Spider-Man right now," he says. "It is a thing and it will be a thing, and we will talk about it sometime in the future."

That "early 2021" window has essentially passed for Spider-Man's inclusion into Marvel's Avengers, but hopefully we'll hear something soon regarding the introduction of the character.

More on the Horizon

On top of everything discussed above, Crystal Dynamics is committed to the continued evolution of the core game. Amos laid the team's goal to deliver high-quality content when it's ready, while also improving its lines of communication with the community. As part of the gameplay evolution still to come, Crystal Dynamics hopes to make players feel like the superheroes they should feel like, adding power in the palm of players' hands through various gameplay tweaks, including better progression mechanics, gear you'll want to pursue, and augmentations that will change the way you play.

As part of a series of ongoing improvements, Crystal Dynamics is looking into additional balance tuning, better gear and progression, improving the collectible comics system, and better matchmaking. It's also adding multiplayer megahives and post-level 50 progression to encourage players to keep coming back.

"The roadmap and our releases are all trying to expand our world across multiple vectors," Gray says. "We want to do whole new mission types that have a unique identity to them and a unique reward scheme. Clearly, we have our eyes targeted for bringing in some villains in new ways, and new villains and new enemy factions so that the world feels like it's expanding. We want to make sure that the loops we have today, and the new gameplay loops are adding what we call internally as 'stark contrast.' We've heard from people [...] that some of the dough may be spread too thin, and so we're trying to make sure that the new things we're adding in have a discernible, strong identity in and of themselves in contrast to the rest of what we're offering in terms of mission mode types, gameplay objectives, locations, and enemies."

But all the problems of Marvel's Avengers won't be fixed in a single day or in a single content drop, and Crystal Dynamics knows it has to play the long game. "I think the roadmap points to, like, we're going to do this brick by brick," Gray says. "We're not currently saying we're going to drop a release and it's all solved. But this is how we want to build our universe: Expand on these vectors with each release, both from a narrative point and from a gameplay-style point and everything in between."

Marvel's Avengers launched last year to reviews that largely praised the story-driven modes, while criticizing the post- and endgame loops. Hopefully these changes will address those widespread sentiments by giving players more reason to step back into the shoes of their favorite heroes time and time again. Marvel's Avengers is now available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia, and PC.

Marvel's Avengers

Last year, during the studio's launch edition of the Marvel's Avengers War Table, Crystal Dynamics mentioned that due to the unfortunate passing of Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, it altered one of its announcements that was scheduled for around that time. The screen then faded to a Black Panther emblem, seeming to hint that the announcement was that the king of Wakanda was heading to the hero roster at some point in the future. Today, Crystal Dynamics officially announced that Black Panther is joining Marvel's Avengers later this year.

Black Panther joins the Avengers as a part of the War for Wakanda expansion. In addition to adding the Wakandan king as a new playable hero, this release also adds new hero outfits, a power level cap increase, new villains (including Black Panther's longtime adversary Klaw), new Klaw faction enemies, a new story, a new Wakandan Jungle Biome, and a new outpost. The story seems to center around Klaw working with AIM's Scientist Supreme to stage a full-scale invasion of Wakanda to steal the country's vibranium. Presumably, Black Panther would work alongside the Avengers to battle the forces led by Klaw to protect the country as well as prevent AIM from retrieving the near-indestructible metal.

Marvel's Avengers

Most notably, War for Wakanda is called an expansion, rather than an Operation, as we saw the post-launch stories to this point labeled. "An Operation like Kate Bishop or an Operation with Clint, those are generally much smaller," Crystal Dynamics studio head Scot Amos says. "When you get to an expansion, this is a whole new area, like, you've never been here before; this is walking into an area like, 'What in the world?' and you're in this whole new Wakanda jungle biome that has new architecture, that has new outposts, that has new enemies, that has new NPCs. Just the scope of stuff that's new and it being a completely new location, for us, when we talk about an expansion, there's an expectation we're setting for ourselves and for players that this is bigger than an Operation; this isn't just a hero drop."

Despite the difference in nomenclature, don't worry; it's still free to all players. "As long as you own the core game, you get Kate, Clint, and Black Panther; you get their Operations and you get the expansion," Amos says.

For those who are excited for the introduction of Spider-Man into the PlayStation version of Marvel's Avengers, Amos can't say much right now. "PR has allowed me to say that we have people working on Spider-Man right now," he says. "It is a thing and it will be a thing, and we will talk about it sometime in the future."

During the Square Enix Presents Showcase, new information surrounding the Tomb Raider reboot trilogy was announced in the form of the Definitive Survivor Trilogy. Because who doesn't want to celebrate Lara Croft

A bundle with all three of Lara Croft’s latest adventures, the Definitive Survivor Trilogy delves into Lara’s very first expedition aboard the Endurance ship to the mythical island of Yamatai. This is followed by Rise of the Tomb Raider which builds upon 2013’s origin story and chronicles the events that led to Lara Croft’s “tomb raider” moniker. Suffering from PTSD after the catastrophic events at Yamatai, Lara sets out to the lost city of Kitezh to unearth the secrets of her father’s research. Shadow of the Tomb Raider brings the epic reboot trilogy to a close in the ancient South American city of Paititi where a Mayan doomsday conspiracy has been set in motion.

In addition to the three games, players will also get access to over 12 hours of additional DLC that include extra tombs across the last two games as well as some standalone side narratives like Baba Yaga: The Temple of the Witch and Blood Ties.

Outside of the Definitive Survivor Trilogy, a new Tomb Raider “The Lost Valley” statue was also shown. While the statue is still in the works, it looks to be a strikingly detailed work that would be right at home in any Tomb Raider fanatic’s collection. The statue showcases Lara in her classic outfit as she fends off two hungry raptors (see above). There’s no word on when the statue will be ready for pre-order/purchase but there will likely be more information surrounding those details at a later date.

The Definitive Survivor Trilogy and statue are both a part of the Tomb Raider 25th Anniversary Celebration. The bundled trilogy is already available for purchase at a very reasonable $20 on the Microsoft and PlayStation stores. This price, however, is only in effect for a limited time so grab a copy as soon as you can and become the kickass adventurer you were always meant to be!

During its Square Enix Presents livestream on Thursday, Square Enix rerevealed Project Athia, first announced last summer, as the game Forspoken. A new trailer, albeit brief, was also shown during the presentation, highlighting new gameplay and the game's lead actress, Ella Balinska. Check out the trailer below.

Click here to watch embedded media

While we still don't know a ton about Forspoken, during the presentation, Balinska did reveal that the game's lead character is named Frey Holland, and that it's in a "beautiful yet threatening world."

"Frey is a character I immediately connected with when this project was first brought to me," Balisnka said during the livestream. "And I've had so much fun bringing her character to life in performance capture and voice recording sessions."

Most recently, Balinska has been seen co-starring in the 2019 Charlie's Angels reboot alongside Kristin Stewart and Naomi Scott, and Shana Feste's 2020 horror film Run Sweetheart Run

The new trailer briefly reveals the main character hiding from dragons, followed by a longer look at the game's fluid traversal first shown during the game's reveal, and brief glimpses of combat versus bears and other beasts. The trailer ends with a look a desert landscape, perhaps implicating an open world, and a 2022 release window.

Forspoken is expected to be released on PlayStation 5 and PC, but that doesn't mean the game might not eventually make its way to Xbox Series X/S. Back in December, Sony confirmed the game would be a console exclusive "until at least 24 months after release."

Though we still don't know a ton about Forspoken, it's still a new-gen world to be excited about. If you want to see even more, back in September, developer Luminous Productions released a trailer hinting at a lot of the details revealed during today's livestream.

Tomb Raider Cookbook Announced

Written by

You may be reeling from the numerous reveals that dropped at today's Square Enix Presents showcase, but among the games and the announcements there was a cookbook. That's right, a Tomb Raider cookbook. What does Lara eat when she's not saving the world? That's a question we're certainly looking forward to answering with our stomachs when the cookbook hits.

One more important note before we move on – the cover featured in the screenshot is clearly labeled as not final, so we're likely going to have a little more to look at besides a camp cauldron. I mean, these foods are probably going to incorporate some rough edges to show off the hardcore tomb raiding lifestyle, but they're not likely to be camp roughage assembled from sinewy deer parts and tree bark. We hope, anyway.

While we don't have details about the almost-certainly-delicious contents inside, we can track the rich history of gaming cookbooks for some potential hints...

While games lend themselves to all kinds of media outside of their core entities such as movies, collectibles, and novels, cookbooks are one of the side dishes that seem to be getting more and more attention as the years go on (and brands get leveraged for more and more spin-off merchandise!).

For instance, did you know Destiny has an official cookbook? You can whip up everything from cocktails to desserts in there. Overwatch has a pretty awesome cookbook, even though some of the recipes are a stretch from the source content. I mean, anytime you try to make a cookbook from parent material that isn't about food, you have some inherent challenges to tackle. That hasn't stopped other huge IPs like The Elder Scrolls, World of Warcraft, or Fallout from having their brands attached to the culinary craft.

What do you hope to see in terms of recipes for the Tomb Raider cookbook? Do you have anything in mind that calls to you from the franchise? Let us know in the comments! You can order the Tomb Raider cookbook here.
