Destiny 2: Beyond Light’s endgame PVE activities hold special, more powerful versions of enemies called Champions. Champions can be found in various endgame activities including higher level Nightfall activities, Master and Legend Lost Sectors, and more.
Champions in Destiny 2 come in three main types: Overload, Barrier, and Unstoppable. The Vex, Cabal, Fallen, Hive, and Taken, all have Champions. The Scorn do not have any Champions at this time however, that could change in the future. Guardians will need to use Seasonal Artifact Mods, or certain Exotic weapons, to be most effective against Champions.

The Seasonal Artifact in Destiny 2 gives Guardians access to Seasonal Mods that allow different types of weapons or abilities, to counter different types of Champions. Overload mods will Stun Overload Champions, delay their ability regeneration, and lower their damage output. Unstoppable Mods will allow Guardians to Stun Unstoppable Champions. Anti-Barrier Mods allow Guardians to Stun Barrier Champions and can also be used to pierce other enemy barriers like Cabal Phalanx shields or Hive Knight Shields.
Overload Champions have increased ability regeneration allowing them to utilize their abilities more often. There currently are Overload Fallen Captains, Overload Taken Hobgoblins, and Overload Vex Minotaurs. Guardians will need to utilize any Overload Mods available in the Seasonal Artifact to Disrupt and Stun these Champions. The Divinity Exotic Trace Rifle is also capable of Disrupting and Stunning Overload Champions.
Unstoppable Champions have a higher-than-average health pool and are immune to Stagger or Stun, unless Guardians are using an Unstoppable Mod for a given weapon or ability. There are currently Unstoppable Cabal Incendiors, Unstoppable Hive Ogres, and Unstoppable Taken Phalanx. Unstoppable Mods from the Seasonal Artifact will be useful to Stagger and Stun Unstoppable Champions. The Leviathan’s Breath Exotic Bow can also Stagger and Stun Unstoppable Champions.
Barrier Champions are slightly different than the other two Champions. Unlike the Overload or Unstoppable Champions, Barrier Champions act more like their normal counterparts, however, Barrier Champions will shield themselves with a barrier after taking damage. Guardians will need to use Anti-Barrier Mods for their weapons to Pierce the barrier and prevent the Champion from healing itself. The Eriana’s Vow Exotic Hand Cannon fires shield-piercing ammunition that can Pierce Barrier Champions shields.
Champions in Destiny 2 are tough enemies that can easily resist players if they do not prepare themselves. Unlocking Champion Mods in the Seasonal Artifact or using Exotic weapons that are strong against Champions, is important in any activity that has Champions. Guardians that prepare themselves with the appropriate Mods, and coordinate with their fireteams, will be able to overcome these Champions in Destiny 2.
