From Singularity 6, Palia is set to include romance options akin to Stardew Valley with possible room for marriage and children in the future.

The upcoming MMORPG known as Palia will have romance options inspired by Stardew Valley and other farming sims. Likewise, this likely could lead to children and marriage further down the line, the new development studio explained recently.

Palia is inspired by a number of games aside from Stardew Valley, including Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Breath of the Wild, but ConcernedApe's indie game might be the one with the most influence. In addition to farming and task management, Palia takes from Stardew Valley's NPC friendship levels. As explained during a press release, many of Palia's NPCs will feature friendship levels that increase by giving them gifts, speaking with them, and completing their quests. This process will work the same for NPCs who have a romance option. On the official Palia Discord server, Singularity 6 clarified how these relationships will work and how they may change in the future.

Currently, there are only plans to introduce relationships in Palia through the way of Stardew Valley-like heart levels with certain NPCs. But Palia hasn't entered pre-alpha yet, meaning there's much room to change and grow. Likely, marriage will exist in the world of Palia down the line, Singularity 6 mentioned on Discord. Following in the footsteps of many farming sims, this is the most probable outcome, even if the feature isn't available at launch.

Additionally, Singularity 6 mentions that children may be possible in the future, much like raising children in Story of Seasons or Stardew Valley. One big question mark many MMORPG players have about Palia is what will keep it enticing when there's nothing like PvP and raids to keep competition and stakes high. But the addition of children always adds incentive for the long-haul when it comes to relaxing farming sims, and would add to the community-building style that Palia is aiming for.

Another big question fans have about the upcoming game is whether or not Palia will allow marriage between players. Stardew Valley added this option with the multiplayer update, and it functions the same as marrying an NPC in Pelican Town, wedding and all. Elder Scrolls Online and many other MMORPGs also allow players to marry one another and provide buffs for doing so, so it wouldn't be surprising to see this down the line, and Singularity 6 is currently looking into it.

RPG fans are always wondering whether or not players can romance multiple characters without penalty, or else risking a Persona 5-style confrontation scene. According to Singularity 6, players can have relationships with multiple NPCs but, "just like in real life," the characters may get upset upon discovery.

Palia is currently in development.
