Dwayne Johnson shared a teaser for 'DC's League of Super-Pets' and revealed a full cast that includes Kevin Hart and Kate McKinnon.

Warner Animation Group has experienced a revitalization in the number of films they have made, with the studio releasing such films as The LEGO Movie (and its sequels and spin-offs), StorksScoob!, and Smallfoot. However, Warner Bros. has an extensive catalog of DC properties that its animated films can reach into, as it did for The LEGO Batman Movie. Now another animated DC adaptation is on the way, as Dwayne Johnson shared a teaser for a new Super-Pets film.

The Legion of Super-Pets has an extensive history in DC comics, with the first iteration led by Superman's dog Krypto appearing in 1962. The team has since become a staple in DC comics with occasional tie-ins to other forms of media. A brief cartoon series about Krypto titled Krypto the Superdog aired on Cartoon Network in 2005 and the character had appearances in various DC-related projects such as Smallville and Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Officially titled DC's League of Super-Pets, the film represents the first instance of Super-Pets characters appearing on the big screen. The film stars Jungle Cruise actor Johnson as Krypto the Superdog and Borderlands star Kevin Hart as Ace the Bat-Hound, who will team up with Wonder Woman's kangaroo, Jumpa, and Supergirl's cat, Streaky the Supercat, to fight crime. Kate McKinnon, John Krasinski, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, Diego Luna, and Keanu Reeves round out the voice cast in undisclosed roles, and the film is directed by Jared Stern, who wrote and produced all thirteen episodes of Green Eggs and Ham for Netflix.

DC's League of Super-Pets is the first theatrically released animated film based on a DC property since The Lego Batman Movie and the most recent one based on superhero comics as a whole since Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Johnson is an exciting casting choice for Krypto, and it will be fascinating to see how Warner Bros. plans to adapt a film about the beloved Super-Pet characters to the big screen.

Very few of Warner Bros.' recent animated films have reached the same level of acclaim and audience engagement as films by Disney, Pixar, and other established animation studios. However, with superhero films ruling the box office and winning the hearts of most audiences, a Super-Pets film led by Johnson could be the perfect project for the studio to catch up to its contemporaries.

If nothing else, it should be amusing to see Johnson and Hart work together in the voice roles as the best friends of Superman and Batman. Plus, the Super-Pets teaser's use of the classic Superman theme by John Williams will put a smile on many faces.

DC's League of Super-Pets will fly into theaters on May 20th, 2022.
